Airfares/bus - La Paz or Los Cabos?

gringorio - 12-26-2007 at 10:01 AM

Hi everyone,

I've been looking into airfares to get to La Paz, but the prices generally seem to be one to two hundred dollars more than flying in to Cabo.

If flying into Los Cabos, how much does the bus to La Paz cost and about how long is the ride?

Thank you! :bounce:

I think that it would be more like $20. The last time I took the bus to Los Barriles it was $10 and that was a few years ago.
The cheapest way to get to the bus station is to walk out to the highway from the airport and take a collectivo or Urbano bus(probably 7 pesos) to Valerio(the street that the bus station is on) and walk down to the station(half a block)
The ride to La Paz is about 3 hours. You will probably stop in San Bartolo...great places to eat there.
The hardest part of this whole trip is the walk to the highway..probably 1/2 mile. There is a small chance that you could get a bus to La Paz there but not worth taking a chance. They dont always stop for people on the side of the road.

If you want you can take a bus from the airport to SJ bus station and transfer to the bus north which run every two hours, or as noted walk 1km to the main freeway road or hitch hike the 1km and offer the person driver 10 pesos for the kind lift. Cross the freeway and wait on the side going north.

There, under the overpass, the bus heading north will stop for you if signal properly, there will almost always be people there waiting. Wave at the bus, open palm facing out and motion downward, look at the driver at the same time and get on quickly to be polite to others who wish to continue, sit down and then later you can pay when asked. Don't make a big scene and ask questions and slow down the bus, there is only one direction to go, north.

The bus will continue to the Malecon, La Paz or you can get off anywhere you like as you go. From the airport its about 2.5 hours or from the bus station 3 hours.

The rate is something like 160-180 pesos or about $16. It is very convenient and very safe and very affordable, making it the best, most comfortable option available.

There is also an ejectivo bus or executive bus which is direct, 200 pesos but likely doesn't stop at the underpass or anywhere except SJD and La Paz.

The airfares can fluctuate quite a bit and often Los Cabos is a bit cheaper becuse there's more carriers that fly there. I use www.kayak.com for my searches and the price differences usually aren't worth the hassle of getting to and from Los Cabos.
