NBC Coverage of the Baja Mil

HMMMMM....40 percent commercials, and very little information about where the vehicles were located on the race course. The script writer apparently had little or no knowledge of Baja; describing one location as "Bahia". We all know, as they did, that there is only one!

I enjoyed seeing the terrain from the air, and there was lots of high speed energy, but over-all it was disappointing after waiting all week and re-scheduling my Sunday morning.

Sal Fish must be smiling ear to ear that the world saw such a SANITIZED version of the whole event. There was not a single mention that six humans lost their lives in associatiion with the event, eight if you count the criminal element, and ten if you count the law enforcement victims of the criminal element killed in association with the event.

I got the distinct impression that had a driver been killed who WASN'T a big name, it wouldn't have been part of the "coverage". The families of the legitimately dead must be peeed at the purposeful omission of any mention of their loss.

Just my judgement here; I'm sure there are those who will disagree.

I was there at Santo Domingo I'm with you

I didn't feel they captured the energy and excitement of the race. I was surprised there was no mention of the deaths in the race. It was really a watered down version, not really worth watching. Too bad, great sport. k:(:?:

Impossible to cover a 2 day race in just an hour (with commercials)... You just have to be there in person and that contributes to the welfair of the Baja residents as well.

Always seems to be a little bad with any good thing...

It was a good show, but just a tease of what the sport offers. Even a full length movie like Dust To Glory can't give all the details.

We had a group from western Nevada County [Grass Valley, Ca.] racing the Baja 1000 on a bike for thier first time racing the event.. They came in 5th overall...Amateurs behind the factory guys.. I thought you might have maybe heard a little peep about that....I still watched the whole thing.

i liked it. the commercials were almost better than the real action.
i enjoyed seeing my phx friend chad ragland's scene where he caught some mud spray. he finished 12th and his dad lightning larry went 5th overall TTs.

malcom sure is an icon.

I missed it too. I'll get the DVD, hopefully a full hour without the commercials and maybe some behind the scene stuff.

My friends who didn't see the race in person but watched the show rated it from good to great. I expected more. There was no coverage on the quads or sand rails-everything was focused on the Trophy trucks and bikes.
On a lesser note I'm curious as to what safety items the bike riders had in their backpacks and had hoped they'd show that part but- no.

Donny Doich (sp) of the Big Idea on TV would say that this is the perfect opportunity for someone to make money. A small video production company looking in the back packs, checking out the tool kits, talking to people about their experiences, acknowledging the human toll.
