I know some of you are Motosat users. We are planning a trip to at least Loreto in Baja Sur, and are wondering if our current satellite (89W) will
work that far south.
Thanks

With Hughesnet service on a .75 meter antenna ( I am assuming you have an F1 motosat platform) Mulege is about the outer limit. Signal will drop
rapidy after that point.
Get your dealer to switch you to satmex5. Good all the way down but many reports of it being flakey and slow.

The footprint shown here does not look like it will reach Loreto.

Check with Tioga George http://vagabonders-supreme.blogspot.com/. He uses Motosat and has been all the way to Cabo.

Het PSYflyjohn...welcome to the board. I saw your post on the MotoSat Forum as well. I think if you get in touch with Tioga George, he maybe able to
advise. Not sure where you're coming from, but Moto Sat told me direct that Sat 117 works in the U.S. as well if you do have to switch. I recently
towed down a rig to San Juanico with a Moto Sat on it, and it has worked great so far. I have attached a photo of the set-up.

Tioga George is on Satmex-5 aka 117 with HN service.
Just as a point of clarification, Motosat is just an auto pointing platform. A Motosat platform can have service from a number of different providers
ie: Hughes net, Ethersat ( or another iDirect equipment ISP) or even Starband. A motosat platform can also have different size antennas.
So you can't just say " he has Motosat and can go all the way to Cabo" You need to qualify it by adding what service they are using, what satellite
they are assigned to and also what size antenna they have.
Sat mex-5 and also sat mex -6 have poor coverage in the very northern part of the USA

Ok, thanks for your responses.
Tioga George thinks I'll need to switch sats.
Looks like I'll be doing that.
