DOS MARES, LA PAZ

My wife and I are very happy with a seafood restaurant on the Malecon in La Paz called Dos Mares. It's on the hard side of the Malecon between Victoria and Salvatierra, also between Nuevo Pekin and another seafood restaurant called Los Laureles -- and is far superior to both those eating establishments.

Dos Mares is meticulously clean and well-appointed. Although it has a huge television set I've never known it to be turned on during the dinner hour. Instead, Mexican music is played at a discreet level that adds a bit of atmosphere and also makes conversation comfortable.

Most importantly, the food is is flawlessly prepared. Well seasoned (but not overly so), cooked just right, vegetables still a bit crunchy, best rice we've had in La Paz, the entrees perfectly cooked. Nothing needed salt or any other seasoning. The prices are a bit less than those at Los Laureles for the same dishes -- and the quality is vastly better.

Dos Mares sits a bit back from the sidewalk and the lighting is discreet with no garish sign out front. Start looking for it as soon as you pass the Nuevo Pekin going north toward Pichelingue. :bounce::bounce:

Will have to give it a try again.

We've been there a couple of times for dinner and once for breakfast. I can't say we were very impressed. The last time was a year ago so maybe it's changed. Also, on our last visit the wide screen was pretty loud.
