Lobos Marinos Uniform

DianaT - 1-22-2008 at 06:33 PM

In part thanks to the generous donations from some Nomads, the Bahia Asuncion Mountain Bike Team, the Lobos Marinos, now has uniforms----

This picture was taken by the President of the team the day he picked up the uniforms----he will have more official ones later, but they were really excited. Also, this is only part of the team

We are waiting to hear how five selected team members (13 and 15 years old) scored in the Loreto Oympics this month----

We would also like to give a plug to Probuilt Wheels in San Diego. The owner, Rick Nunez is helping to support the team with more plans for the future. (Yes, a blatant commercial, but out of all the bike shops we contacted, he was the one to respond, and responded with enthusiasm.)

Besides sending down equipment, Rick has set up one page on his web site with pictures of the Lobos Marinos.

Thanks again to those who donated---there are some very happy boys and girls.

John and Diane

This is fantastic and I congratulate you John & Diane on your efforts to help this club. This is just one of the positive benefits of having new blood come into our community.

Those northern leagues are great. The President of the Lobos Marinos is also vice president of the local league that includes Vizcaino, San Ignacio, Guerrero Negro and Rancho Caracol. This league does not have the same resources availabe, but do quite well.

There was a national meet in La Paz last year, and this team from the north won most of the medals

The the Lobos Marinos who were invited did quite well--here they are ---with medals won--- no uniforms and all

Tomas took first place in the `12-13 year old race.

Now you have another reason to visit Bahia Asuncion---bring that fancy bike and ride the course there!

Opps, that bike of yours might be needed for your daughter's 15th birthday.:lol:

It is a great activity for the entire family. Little by little, the Lobos Marinos hope to grow. While they took the bus from Vizcaino to La Paz, that is usually not the case. One of their goals is to try an obtain a van for transport since often the kids have to ride in the back of open pick-ups with the bikes.

And of course, there is the most photogenic of the Lobos Marinos---the youngest member --- Jisreal---one tough little rider who is doing well

Do come and meet another great mountain bike organization.

Diane

I sure hope that bike is not one of those ones made for the extreme vertical downhill that flies from boulder to boulder! :o:o

Rick, the owner of the shop that is helping the team, is a multiple state champ in that crazy type riding. He just smiles when I tell him that I think it is crazy. But, he recently was in a near fatal riding accident --- broke his back in three places and is fortunate to still be walking---lots of therapy.

He has a U-tube film on his web site of his riding. He still thinks that extreme riding is the best, and I still think it is crazy---tis not a disagreement that gets in the way of working with the Lobos Marinos.:yes:

You would enjoy the Bahia Asuncion area, and you would enjoy meeting this team.

Red is a nice color---used to be my favorite, but now it is purple---don't know why.

The bike is meant for that but i used it for x-country,even at this event, while racing in PLAYAS DE TIJUANA, I manage to break my left arm in two places.Didn't work for three months, and few days before the accident,i just had bought a new car, so you can imagine, the painnnnn....
