SANTA ANA, Calif. - The body of a 16-year-old girl arrived at the Orange County coroner's office Thursday from Mexico, where it had been buried in a
pauper's grave for nearly three years.
Lillian June Serianne disappeared July 3, 2001. Her parents believed she had run off with her boyfriend, but learned last August that her body was
found in Mexico two days after her disappearance.
Serianne had been beaten to death with a tire iron. She was buried in a pauper's grave in the Ensenada, Mexico municipal cemetery.
Serianne's family tried to get her body exhumed and returned to them. But Serianne's mother said Mexican officials told her they considered it
unsanitary to dig up a body until seven years after burial.
Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Garden Grove, earlier this year contacted Mexican officials for Serianne's family. The family eventually made their own
arrangements with Mexican officials.
An Orange County deputy confirmed Serianne's body had arrived Thursday, but gave no further details. The coroner's office was to meet with Santa Ana
police Friday to decide whether to conduct an autopsy.
Police believe Serianne was killed in Mexico. Detectives in that country have been trying to solve the case for three years, said Santa Ana police
Sgt. Carlos Rojas.
