Border crossing longer or shorter after Feb, 1???

It will be interesting to see how the passport regulation will affect the border wait. I`m guessing fewer people but longer waits!

I am foolishly crossing this Thursday, 1/31. Simply must be my need for more Baja education and experience. Will post report after my flight lands in sunny Florida on the weekend. Need some polish on my golf game to prep for April 5 NOMAD tourney!

What passport regulation?

We too are crossing this weekend. We have sentri passes for the return but a friend is helping with some furniture and will be in line on Sunday. I'll report back but my thoughts are the wait may be not be a true reflection due to the Super Bowl

No passport regulation yet. But, they are supposed to ask to actually see the documents, that you were already required to have, to get back into the US.

i.e. Drivers license and birth certificate, or a passport, etc..

It took them this long to realize that just a verbal affirmation that you are a US citizen is not enough to enter the US.

At this time passports aren't a must till June 2009 or some other time.

FDT, understood.. But I was reading the other day that until now they did not even need to see your documents. In the past a verbal affirmation to the Boarder Patrol Officer was enough. This is no longer allowed as of Feb 1st, they need to see your papers now.. everyones.. everytime.

Feb 1st also happens to be when the new passport cards will be available; but, this is another issue.

O.K. no passport now but there are new requirements and I`m going to be tracking the border wait to see how waits are affected.

Rule states that with my Sentri I'm ok.
Other Accepted Travel Documents: SENTRI, NEXUS, FAST and the U.S. Coast Guard Mariner Document.

A better judge of the effect of this new requirement might be the following weekend. I think the Super Bowl will tend to limit the amount of gringos who might go down there for the weekend.

Tell you one thing..........during the Super Bowl is a great time to go to amusement parks, Costco, anywhere that tends to be crowded with people. The whole US stops for the Super Bowl.
