I have recently purchased property on the Baja and am considering purchasing a vehicle to leave there.
My question is : should I buy in MX or US ? What are the pros and cons ?osoflojo - 1-29-2008 at 01:25 PM
I would do a MXvehicle but I am sure others would disagree for various reasons.grito - 1-30-2008 at 10:48 AM
I've done both. If you buy in Mexico you will have Mexican plates which attract a lot less attention from the police and others out to hassel
gringos. But you will probably pay more than you would for a car from NOB.

All my vehicles are imported Mexican plates including my motorhome. I live here.billyboy - 1-30-2008 at 02:26 PM
Thx for the responses .... I'm leaning towards MX, which I think would help the local economy.stanburn - 1-30-2008 at 03:27 PM
Live local, buy local.bajamigo - 1-30-2008 at 06:17 PM
We recently purchased something called, for want of a better term, "driver's license insurance." It essentially covers the insured driver (not the
car) for liability and acts like a "get out of jail free" card. The only stipulation is that the car (any car you're driving at the time) cannot have
MX plates. The idea of not spending one momentito in a Mexican jail is enough of a tie-breaker for me.robrt8 - 1-30-2008 at 07:18 PM
Mexican plated car, if you're going to leave it. Blend in. Tint the windows a bit.Bob and Susan - 1-31-2008 at 07:48 AM

You're going to leave it in Baja? Regardless of registration, just buy something you can comfortably afford to say goodby to. All or part of it may
be missing when you return.bajaguy - 1-31-2008 at 09:23 AM
Blend in is good advice......Break out a headlight and a taillight on opposite corners. Adjust the remaining headlight so it is at a 45 degree up
angle. Rip out the turn signals and don't wash it. Install an expired (by at least 3 years) California plate., plaster the back end with Mexican
political stickers...........Perfecto!!!!Cypress - 1-31-2008 at 02:39 PM
Would like to buy local, but the local guys down Baja way ride 'em hard and put 'em up wet.comitan - 1-31-2008 at 02:44 PM
In La Paz there are many car lots, these cars are driven or towed down the Baja and never owned by a Mexican.billyboy - 1-31-2008 at 09:19 PM
Thx guys ... not too encouraging for a MX purchase.
