Went out fishing Monday & Wednesday

Went out of Los Muertos. Monday - very light winds in the mid-80s. Caught Sierra, Bonito, Jack and Cabrilla.

Couldn't decide which one to BBQ first so we did up 3 kinds of fish.

Mixed reviews on the fish. Everyone like them all but had favorites. Cooked up yellowtail, sierra, bonito and jack.

Yellowtail - everyone's favorite. Nice firm white meat.

Sierra - good white meat but softer and milder than yellowtail. Probably my least favorite but I was alone in that opinion.

Jack - I like this one very much. A darker flesh with a stronger flavor.

Bonito - pretty dark flesh but we only ate the Pacific Bonito, which is not nearly as dark as the Mexican Striped Bonito. Make sure all the dark lateral line meat is trimmed away from the dark flesh fish. I trim it away before grilling.

Haven't eaten any of the pargo or cabrilla yet.

2 days. Left La Paz at 6am on Monday. The thermometer said 72 degrees. Very warm night. The Blazer thermometer said 86 when we headed back home about 2pm. Little to no wind with the water like glass and overcast most of the day.

On Wednesday morning it was 51 degrees in La Paz. The thermometer showed 41 driving over the hills to Los Muertos and was 48 at the beach. When we headed back home it was 73. The wind kicked up some during the day so we stayed pretty close to shore where it was calmer, but it was sunny and felt nice and warm out of the wind.

No wonder the yellowtail was the favorite.............you didnt cook the two best fish of the bunch; the pargo and the cabrilla. :spingrin:

Sierra on the grill? I never really considered that. Tough to not turn it into ceviche.

Only had so much space on the grill. The grill pic is with fish caught on Monday cooked up that night. No room for the cabrilla so it's in the freezer.

Wednesday I grilled that days catch of the yellowtail. The pargo goes on tonight.

The sierra was filleted with the skin on. I put it skin side down on the grill and never turned it. You can see it doesn't have the grid marks like the 2 other pieces have. I normally cook salmon this way too. Never have any of the meat stick to the grids. On our boat I use a propane grill. Here at the house I use the electric grill.
