I have to declare 36 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of alcohol....also 24 bottles of Pellegrino Mineral water...I left the receipts behind...

...what will happen when I declare??? 24 of them is "2 buck chuck" only worth $48 bucks.

Tell them it is sacramental wine and holy water from The Vatican for the church in San Ignacio.

Wear a real big crucifix around your neck.

Be careful - you must have an import permit to import alchohol above the limit allowed.

I tried to declare a case of wine two years ago at Tecate and a very professsional and decent young jefe told me that there was no legal way it could be done - he finally sent me on my way after making me swear I would not put Mexican customs in "that position" again. I was impressed by him.

It seems there no legal difference between declaring wine, fire arms or used motor vehicle tires - they are prohibited without the permit.

I was made to declare alcohol at Tecate before. Guy found it in the back of the truck and made me go over to the Aduana and pay the tax.

Must have been a different inspector

Just put the wine bottles here and there in your vehicles and go brain-dead when they ask. Why would you have to declare water?

Stashing the bottles here and there sounds good, and if they happen to find it, tell them you thought it was allowed under the Free Trade Agreement.

decided to dump my wine...too much uncertainty...Lera sounds like she wants me to get caught...maybe I have said bad things to her...nothing I say is important so could not be too bad. I don't remember, but they say women never forget...

We were worried too when we decided to pack a few extra cases of wine. I kept 1 case of Two Buck Chuck in the back of the car where it was quite visible. No one ever bothered to even look. I figured I could 'buy' my way out of a problem by simply giving the inspector a couple of bottles of fine Napa Valley wine and only be out $4.

Take stuff in all the time. Lots of box wine and 2buck.
If they spot it, (remote chance) claim own consumption during your long camping trip and ignorance of the importation limit. Worse they can do is, take it away or you pay some money. No jail or entry refusal involved.
