Rickey Ricardo's - new store in La Paz

BMG - 2-8-2008 at 06:12 PM

Ana and I stopped by a new store today here in La Paz. Rickey Ricardo has opened a store across from the hardware store Los Arcos on Abosolo close to CCC. He has some nice home decor, furnishings, knick-knacks, wall hangings, etc. that we haven't seen much of here in La Paz. Ana liked the wrought iron coat/hat rack but I liked the elephant head wall hanging. We haven't bought either yet, but my guess is we won't be doing any 'safari' themes in the near future.

(No photos of Ricky and Lucy. :()

DENNIS - 2-8-2008 at 06:45 PM

Ricky Ricardo and Rickey Ricardo - no relation. I asked if most locals had even heard of Ricky Ricardo since he was Cuban and did a lot of music in Spanish. He said not many Mexicans had heard of him unless they had been to the U.S. and seen the re-runs.

I'll have to give this some thought.

I was thinking this way going to be the 'thought about' phrase.

All I can really remember about the Ricky Ricardo songs were from the "I Love Lucy" show and as I recall, a lot were sung in Spanish. Buy hey, that was waaayyy before my time.

David K - 2-8-2008 at 08:35 PM

Ricky Ricardo was played by Desi Arnaz... Who was a REAL Cuban musician until Lucille Ball made him famous by becoming his wife...

In the late 50's, and until they divorced, they rented our home in Del Mar, on the beach, every summer for 3 mos. (3010 Sandy Lane... a different house is there now.) Desi loved Del Mar so much, he bought his own beach house just down from ours where he lived the rest of his life.

Don't be funny Hook... I was responding to this, posted by BMG:

'Ricky Ricardo' was not a Cuban musician, Desi Arnaz was...

bajaguy - 2-8-2008 at 08:51 PM

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

gnukid - 2-8-2008 at 08:51 PM

I just noticed all these stores opening this week. Wahooo. Nice stuff.

As full of crap as you have been lately, David, Ricky Ricardo, the character in the half hour weekly series, was a Cuban musician played by Desi Arnaiz. One does not exist in memory without the other except in your snobbish Del Mar memory.

bajadave1 - 2-9-2008 at 05:46 AM

Morgaine, please ask if Sr Ricardo is a flight attendant. My last two flights to Denver had an attendant with that name. the first time he said his name, I thought he was joking.............

Phil S - 2-9-2008 at 08:21 AM

Hey Dennis. What ever happened in your "earlier years" that you react the way you do whenever David K "speaks"???? Have you ever met David in person???????? I've never reacted to any of Davids remarks or responses, but your name surely is always "jumping" on him.

David K - 2-9-2008 at 08:26 AM

Yah, what the hey.... aren't we all here for fun and knowledge? Dennis, I don't have any beef with you, so how did we get on this track? I don't hold back information from you guys, so what mkes me a snob all of a sudden? Anyway.... I wish you many Pacificos for happiness!

vandenberg - 2-9-2008 at 09:20 AM

Maybe Dennis wants to keep it a little more interesting:?::(

And BTW, David, your unsolicited refferal to your digs in Del Mar did make it sound a bit snobbish. Just my 2 cents worth.:biggrin:

David K - 2-9-2008 at 09:37 AM

Okay, I will say that something that happened when I was 0-2 years old was interesting, perhaps only to me (that my parents rented to Lucille and Desi)... What would have been said if I told you that Lucille Ball used to hold me when I was a baby? Now, to me THAT would have been snobbish!

You know, here on Nomad you just might not like everything shared... but I think we can be civil to each other without name calling, don't you?

vandenberg - 2-9-2008 at 11:09 AM

Bingo !!!!!

Natalie Ann - 2-9-2008 at 11:15 AM

vacaenbaja - 2-9-2008 at 11:40 AM

So there you have it . David had a connection to old hollywood with Desi Arnaz. I would have never guessed.
Good Nomad trivia.I bet there are quite a few of use that in some way have known or been somehow associated with
people of noteriety. Could make for an interesting topic.
Thanks David.

Shook Salinas de Cortari's hand once here in Loreto.

Didn't make me any richer, so his crookedness didn't transfer to me, darn.:(:(

How many?

You woke me up the other day when you refered to my comments as, "Talk is cheap". We were doing fine until then.
Anyway.... The important thing now is, How many Pacificos? I'm just a hoar at heart and do have my price.

Nice try, but no cigar.....that was SANDY Duncan with the glass eye! Kate, Carrie Duncan is the editor of the Gringo Gazette, Southern edition (and possibly the owner of the Northern...don't know for sure, don't care!)

DENNIS - 2-9-2008 at 01:17 PM

Oh yeah...I stand corrected. Carrie Duncan has a wooden leg. I saw her in a swimming pool once....she almost drowned. All she could do was swim in circles.

I did not use those words to make you angry... sorry! I edited that line 'talk is cheap' to this: 'Verbal rules quoted mean little...' in that other thread. I just wanted to convey that Mexican officials come up with all sorts of rules, on their own... but the official word will be in print, from DF.

Have a nice day... oh, and how many Pacificos would you like for my 'misspeak'?

BMG, there's a B&W photo of Desi on the counter. Bajadave1, "Rickey" says he's not the flight atttendent. I didn't buy anything but saw some interesting small items to keep in mind for later.

El Arcos, not Los Arcos.

My wife pointed this mistake out to me. After 35+ years she's gotten good at it.

(Damn, I'm in trouble when she reads this!)

bajadave1 - 2-11-2008 at 05:42 AM

Thanks, I have to go to La Paz Wed.for a new FM3. I'll check it out if I have time. Dave

Bajajorge - 2-11-2008 at 09:46 AM

I met Desi Arnez Jr (AKA Little Rickey as he was named on the TV show) a couple of years ago when he stayed at a bed and breakfast near my home in Nevada. At that time he told me he has a place and stays in La Paz for several months out of year there. I guess he opened a store there called "Rickey Ricardo's" A very nice gentleman as I recall.

David K - 2-11-2008 at 03:57 PM

Just so it's clear, Desi Arnaz Jr. did NOT play 'Little Ricky' on the TV show...

Richard Lee & Ronald Lee Simmons as ....... Little Ricky Ricardo (1953)

Great to have you on Nomad!!

DENNIS - 2-11-2008 at 04:52 PM

I remember Desi Arnaiz on the Steve Allen TV show, live. He was so drunk he passed out in his chair. Steve Allen had to wake him up and was madder than peeed.
