Looking at the Almanac and it doesn't say anything, just shows a gap of water. Is there a bridge or ferry? Cost?
Also how is the island for camping and chillin out, is it safe? I like the idea of driving to Puerto Carguero, but camping and surf is what I'm
really after.

A friend told me there's a ferry at Lopez Mateos... What a great looking beach to explore!

Isla Magdalena is a great place. Stark beauty and ample solitude. You are correct in the observation that there is no bridge from the mainland. There
is no true ferry either as far as I know. I can't speak for what transportation is available out of San Carlos but it should be no problem to arrange
for a transfer over to the small settlement of Puerto Magdalena. Out of Lopez Mateos there is a very old and rusty barge that will ferry you over. But
it ain't cheap. As I recall, prices had risen to $150usd. There is well known good surf on the island but I'm not sure what time of year it goes off.
Camping and chilling out is good all the time. However, you have to have your camping supplies dialed in before you get out there...there is not much
but small fish camps on the Isla and fresh water is a prized commodity. It can be a windy, damp, and cold place too so go prepared.

In San Carlos ask around for the panguero Martin Flores. He will take you out, bring you back another day for around $75 US. Very nice man, quite a
reasonable price. Has Nena's gold seal of approval.

The point is a south swell spot. There is also a wave on the south end of the island. A major pain to get to.

In Puerto Lopez Mateos, there is a WW11 LST landing barge with a cargo crane used as a ferry to get any sized vehicle across the channel to the Isla.
The pangueros at the whale watch dock can put you in touch. Phone Aquendi, 01152-613-131-5164.
The Isla is covered with 4x4 roads.

Barry, is the $150 that Cardon Man mentioned just for gringos?
Did you hear any other figures for passage? (I am talking about taking a vehicle across, not just people)
How do you signal the barge to come get you when you are ready to leave the island?

There is a surf/fish camp on Punta Hughes. You can easily catch a panga ride from Puerto San Carlos to the sand spit that seperates Mag Bay from
Maria, then another panga to the point. I made the trip down in 2003 and stayed for a month on my Blackman sportfisher "Grebe". Story is @ http://www.followingsea.net/. It is worth the trip, have fun!
