Where were all the holiday tourists?

En route home from 10 days down South we wandered around Ensenada for a few minutes (needed to pickup some rockets and other essentials for the drive home)

Was it my imagination, or were there zero Gringo tourists in good old Calle Segunda?

Saw locals, but the sidewalks and cafes were remarkably empty and the U.S. presence was very scarce.

Crossing at noon in Tecate on Monday (going home day for a long weekend) we were the fifth car in line.

They were all at Disneyland. That's where we were and it was a mad house. The lines were as long as the border wait in San Ysidro. 1.5 to 2hrs. per ride.

Border wait vs. Disneyland wait? Hmmm

We spent the entire week prior to Presidents Weekend in Bahia and it too was zip, nada, vacio, like no Gringos.
Almost eerie to see how deserted the streets were.

We had a group ride from Rancho Santa Veronica to Mikes, there were only a couple of trucks at RSV and when we got to mikes we were the only Americans. There were 10 of us and only 2 other mexican families there. I was good but kind of wierd to have that few people there on a 3 day weekend.

Tourism down further north, it seems. The main migration must be further south already. I noted yesterday that Mulege has lots of tourists...a couple of RV parks are doing a good business with caravans and singles. Maribelle's (Marie Isabell) looked full. Downtown, the tiendas we shopped at were all doing a brisk business with tourists.

Also many RV's camping at all beaches in Conception Bay from Pta Naranjos to Playa Armenta...including a few caravans at Santispac and Buenaventura, too.

Ana's cafe at Santispac was crowded Sat through Tuesday, and will be tonight, I suspect. I hear there is a nice-looking gal bartending there.

Cabo didn't seem real busy either though the flights out of California were full.

Holy cow, we went to La Paz for Carnaval and I have never seen so many caravans in my life. We encountered them on the way south, found two or three at the Casa Blanca Trailer Park in La Paz, and then found two or three on the way back north to Santa Rosalia. I used to wonder who would travel that way, but after observing some of the people who were members, that may be a good way for them to experience something that otherwise they would never be able to do. Shoot one guy tore off the mirrors on another motor home just trying to park.
I guess I will be more accepting if they ever learn how to leave some space inbetween each other so you can more readily pass them which is completely necessary as top speed observed was 45 mph.
We also noticed that everything in Conception bay was full.

I just spoke to some friends that are in the sportfishing business in Ensenada and they say that business has been way down since the carjackings and robberys.

We bought just a few for the drive up to Tecate... you know, just to enliven the trip a bit.
Well, the first few went off just fine.
Then we stopped at an arroyo halfway to Tecate, I planted a rocket stick in the soft ground and buried it a bit too far.
Lit that sucker up, and instead of launching it tipped over,
spun around and around and then went off like a nuclear detonation right at our feet.
Guess that is payback for firing on your camp a couple years back.

Was in La Bay last week and it was kinda slow. The weather was perfect. Saw lots of planes fly over while out fishing on Friday or Sat (can't remember exactly what day)

The border wait wasn't too bad in TJ on Tuesday 19th around 4:00 pm about an hour.
