Dorado Tournament

Hola, I posted the following, but wanted to extend a personal invitation to all of you Nomads living near La Paz: The La Balandra Rotarians of La Paz are sponsoring a Dorado Tournament on April 6th. Proceeds will go to fund the Prosthetic/Orthotic clinic they have set up in La Paz. We volunteer to work at the clinic twice a year, and have had a total of four clinics so far, providing about 80 artificial legs and many orthopedic braces to patients living in Baja Sur. We gather used parts (from donated legs and braces) in the US and disassemble/remove usable parts. These used components are unable to be used in the USA due to liability concerns and health laws, but are perfectly good to use again. The Mexican government will only provide artificial limbs (prostheses) to citizens who have lost their limbs due to accidents, and since about 66% of patients lose their limbs due to various types of vascular disease (Diabetes mostly), these patients have to go without prosthetic systems. Dr. Alejandro Aguirre (a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician) is our contact in La Paz. He is a Rotarian and is the prime mover in the establishment and continued success of the clinic. At the last clinic, he reported that based upon his research, the BCS government through CREE had provided only 6 legs for the preceeding year, where the clinic had provided over 30 (all at no cost). I would encourage any and all of you who like to fish to consider attending the tournament. Also, for anyone living in the La Paz area I would like to invite by at our next clinic to either volunteer or see what we're accomplishing for "los pobres" down there. The clinic does not yet have a firm date, but is set for the latter part of April. More information will follow when available. Thanks for your consideration. Paul Boe

Unfortunetly neither myself nor any other gringo volunteers can make it to the tournament due to scheduling. The last tourney they held it was the same story. Hopefully they can schedule a future clinic at the same time they hold their next clinic!:light:
