Thanks for posting this David
This was taken last Saturday afternoon,(Feb. 16) we made it right to the park entrance on dry pavement, then there was immediately 3-6 inches of snow
on the highway and my 2 wheel drive F-150 is no sno-cat.
Baja Vida is second from the right, and I (thebajarunner) on the far right- which matches our political leanings as well, I might add.

It is a beautiful photo... the original is very detailed, but very large... so when reduced to post here... you lose a lot of the quality.
That road was sheduled to be paved in 1970 to serve the observatory that was just being built up there... 38 years later, well... that's Mexican Time!
Let's hope the same holds true for the Gonzaga Bay road which was graded for paving first in 1986!

The sign at the entrance where we are standing says "elev. 2740 m." which translates to about 9000 feet.
But we were running into snow patches above 6000 feet.
The road is paved at least this far, couple years back it was dirt at this point.
Guys with 4 x 4's were trekking on past this point but my F-150 is hopeless in these conditions.

Back in 1978, I took a photo of the elevation sign at the end of the road at the observatories... It says 2830.40 m (on the left) and 9280.00 feet (on
the right).
Last time up there (in 2000) the sign was still there, but the painted letters were weathered away badly.

Spent the night in our RV on that spot two years ago, Jan/Feb and we could go no further. Who would have thought that such a place existed in Baja,
snowy mountain!
We spooked up a deer there. Understand this area used to hold large population of indigenous people. Don't know much about the place, went on a whim,
amazing rock structures and vistas. Nice to see the pic.
