Banco, are you the guy the board trusts to winnow out truth from BS in Mexico? When did that happen.vgabndo - 2-22-2008 at 07:51 PM
When you consider that only about a half a million Americans a year are killed by using the politician's drugs of choice, tobacco and alcohol, they
should look at the statistics for the number of Americans killed each year by pot. They'll have to look really hard.
I certainly find it no surprise that this administration would be engaged in "Reefer Madness" style propaganda. Considering the social cost of legal
drugs, I find the graphic in the article more than a little humorous.

bad product and huge profits do not go together. Yep, for sure this is BS. (oh my, did I just agree with banco. I need a drink!)

..."to buy guns, bribe, corrupt and destroy lives"... says the drug czar.
What BS!
What a vicious way to appropriate more money for the "war on drugs"!
Like I said before, take the profit out of wars, and then there would be no wars...Iflyfish - 2-23-2008 at 09:45 AM
Amir
Succinctly and well stated!
No more wars and a potential source of revenue for goverment via industry regulation and taxation.

Gag me with a spoon. Never mind, I won't need one.
It is obvious to me that if they would just lower the price of domestic bud enough, the crap from Mexico would be unnecessary.
Of course the Mexicans are to blame up here one way or nuther:
So...I still don't see what all this has to do with Manny Mota. He was a great baseball player.Loretana - 2-23-2008 at 11:54 AM
Wrong, wrong, wrong.Sharksbaja - 2-23-2008 at 11:56 AM
Moto!
Moto ?
MrBillM - 2-23-2008 at 02:25 PM
Mister Moto ?
Peter Lorre ?
He didn't play baseball.
As far as I know, at least not in the movies.
Good actor, though.Sharksbaja - 2-23-2008 at 03:59 PM
I was thinking back. I remember when I was young(er) we all like to call him different names like MotaMan and MotoMan. I was wondering if anyone else
heard that. Peter Lorre was the little funny looking guy? Yeah I recall that! The Gull - 2-23-2008 at 11:31 PM
Mister Moto was a wrestler along with Freddie Balassi.elgatoloco - 2-24-2008 at 12:17 AM
Manuel Rafael Mota Geronimo
I always enjoyed his late game heriocs at Chavez Ravine.
Mil Mascaras was my favorite wrassler.
When I was a VERY young lad our next door neighbor was head of security at the Olympic Auditorium and we spent many a weekend booing Freddie Blassie
and cheering on Ralphie Valaderes and the World Champion LA Thunderbirds. The Gull - 2-24-2008 at 11:18 AM
Remember Shirley Muldoon of the Texas Outlaws?backninedan - 2-24-2008 at 12:04 PM
I remember Dick Lane doing the announcing and commercials for both wrestling and roller derby.DENNIS - 2-24-2008 at 12:06 PM
"Oh Nelly"
That's my Dick Lane impression. Pretty good, huh.The Gull - 2-24-2008 at 12:33 PM
Was it Whoa Nellie or Oh Nellie?DENNIS - 2-24-2008 at 12:34 PM
Maybe "Whoa." Now that you mention it, I think you're right. The Gull - 2-24-2008 at 12:36 PM
So your attempt at the impression didn't cut it.
Haystack Calhoon will sit on you for that mistake.DENNIS - 2-24-2008 at 12:38 PM

Mota, Manny...greatest pinch hitter ever. I didn'y know that he smoked da kine!!
Bury the film canister in your peanut butter.
Whoa Nellie !
MrBillM - 2-25-2008 at 10:43 AM
Dick Lane did a variety of program announcing and Commercials during his LONG career at KTLA. Although my grandparents were devoted to Spade Cooley,
I don't remember whether Lane did commercial spots, but it's not unlikely.
He was an institution in L.A. TV. His "interviews" with Freddie Blassie and other Wrestlers were comic.
Wrestling, Roller Derby (and the later Roller Games for the true aficionados) along with racing and Jalopy Derby on Sunday from Gardena Stadium (and
Ascot Park, I think).
Addendum:
Spade Cooley's show WAS on KTLA so it's likely that Dick Lane did promos and commercials.

Spade Cooley....Great name. Forty years before its time though. What rapper today wouldn't kill for it.The Gull - 2-25-2008 at 02:11 PM

Yep Ascot Park. JC Agajanian's place.
How about old Lion's Drag Strip on a Friday or Saturday night for real excitement?vgabndo - 2-25-2008 at 03:40 PM
THE BIKE DRAGS AT LIONS...
I was having trouble launching a Norton Atlas (hand grenade) drag bike one night. It was geared too tall and wheelie-ing. An old beat up biker came
to the pits walking with a cane and said "Here's all you have to remember...just recite 'go, blow, or knock a hole in the fence, go blow, or knock a
hole in the fence." I launched like a SOB, it blew at the top of second gear, and I coasted out at about 100 mph.
Two out of three was OK.
Great memories.
The TT's at Ascot were memorable too. I got to wrench for Carl Byers against Gary Scott and Kenny Roberts when they were all novices. Way cool to
follow Kenny becoming KING!
Now I'm old and the only hot shoe I've got is if I sit too close to the campfire.

Great Times in those Days

Ascot Park for the Motorcycle Flat-track races on Friday nights rooting for Sammy Tanner on his BSA Goldstar and the TTs Watching the great Eddie
Mulder and Gene Romero fight it out. After the races, there was always someone filled with beer and enthusiasm who dropped their motorcycle in the
intersection trying to impress the departing crowd. I did once at the expense of my exhaust. That was enough.
I had a friend while living in Manhattan Beach who took up Figure 8 Auto racing at Ascot. Another Buddy of mine and I would crew for him. Got us
into the infield for free. What a riot. The Figure 8s were total mayhem.
Ascot started holding Nascar races at one time. Turned out to be the most boring races ever. Too small a track for those Sedans. Too many laps
under the Yellow Flag because there were so many collisions.
Went to a number of Car Drags at Lions, but spent many more nights just to the west at the Winchester Trap and Skeet Range. There was something
strange about firing shotguns in the direction of the filled racing stands. Too far away for any damage, of course.
