2008 Nomad Mugshots, Revisited or regurgitated...

 Pages:  1

vgabndo - 2-23-2008 at 03:51 PM

Some time back I started a thread designed to give folks the opportunity to "show face". When Doug up-graded the site, the photos were lost. It would have been WAY too much effort for Doug to replace them, but I judge that maybe one of the reasons this site sometimes loses it's humanity is that we are too anonymous. I thoroughly enjoyed putting a face on so many of the good folks who post here. Here's an invitation to do it again, and I'll go first.

I'm adding a picture of my sweet co-pilota. Cathy Valentine.
Shown here with Osiris on the left and her sister Obette in San Nicolas'. Our neighbor's girls.

Cathy is a painter. For more on her recent work and current show see: http://www.davisandcline.com/ You'll find her unders "shows" and in the artist's listings.

Nope...not you.

Try saving the IMG link at the bottom of the photobucket list of options. If I remember correctly that will bring up an image.

Hey, I went to mines boobietraps and demolition warfare school in the USMC. I too miss a good BOOM.

Several of my husband's co-workers are lurkers on Nomad. He'd never hear the end of it if he posted a picture of his mug. Our truck or camper, our building project, surfing, scenery - those are all fine. But he'd have a new nickname before his fingers left the keyboard and have to sleep with one eye open at work if his mug were to appear. An occupational taboo I guess.

I've shown up in a picture or two, but am trying to keep a low profile so I don't blow my cover.

I'm a lot older now..

Sharksbaja - 3-1-2008 at 01:44 AM

....at least a year and a half!
I remember a heckofalot more mugs than this first time around Vagabond.:wow: Did we lose that many or wha??

Problem again is if Doug upgrades his software again this might happen again. It would only be the ones hosted here that would be lost, like yours. Likewise the ones to survive would have to be posted elsewhere.

Doug? Hose A? Do you know if this software would support a transfer/upgrade or is this something that could be added as code to permit when that time comes? I realize a good many pics were lost(not permanently erased) in the last XMB upgrade. I'd hate to see that happen again.
A funny coincidence, when I went to tranfer my photo to my own server via FTP I received for the first time, a message recommending utilizing a third party FTP client as my hosting company was experiencing probs. (Don't even ask!) So at this time I will just have to use this sites attachment feature.

Question to Nomads: Are the Photobucket pics that so many use permanent or do they have a set time frame? Could they also be lost with time? Has that happened?

I only show this cause I like to see myself down there!:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

mugs

Osprey - 3-1-2008 at 07:54 AM

Mugs

Sharks, you’re right, not too many mugs. Maybe they need some more encouragement. Some people don’t have scanners so they can’t dig up an old headshot to send in. Most have cameras but some don’t have anybody around to take the picture.

For those folks I suggest you get a TV tray, place it about 10 feet from a kitchen chair in a place with good light, place the camera strategically on the tray, put on a turtleneck (for me turtlenecks are good for turkeynecks), comb your hair, set the camera on timer, push the button, saunter (your have 10 long secords) to the chair, sit down and give us that DMV dumb grim.

Reduce the photo to about 20 KB just to make sure it can be posted and is too small for others to really be offended. Don’t worry about that part anyway because so far the shots have run the whole reality show gamut from Gleem commercial headshots to “Bless His Heart” shots of Jean Moost New York subway people interviews.

This is only for male Nomads. My wife says I lack the ability to motivate women to do much of anything.

You and me both, all I know is the pic has to be under 50 kb. and you can't post photos on the quick reply. I've seen 10 differant ways to do it so you may want to try searching the topic. I can't do it though, it's gotta be my computer, maybe...

I did however post a photo of me and the Mrs. BajaWarrior on this topic but it came from someone else here on this site.
