Ruben's Restaurant, Rosarito

Ruben's Restaurant is on the second floor of the White Horse market across the street from Las Gaviotas. The airy, high-ceilinged dining room and spacious patio offer expansive views of the ocean and the rolling hills inland.

The all-you-can-eat-&-drink Sunday Brunch Buffet w/mimosas and champagne goes for $10.95.

The food is excellent with made-to-order omelettes, pancakes and waffles. Today they had prime rib, grilled chicken breast w/cheese and mild chili strips, garlic clams, eggs scrambled w/machaca, chile rellenos, banana-leaf-wrapped tamales, oven roasted potatoes, rice, beans, menudo, posole and other dishes I probably missed.

Yogurt, granola and fried platanos are offered along with changing menu of desserts that usually include flan, rice pudding and fresh fruit.

Roberto plays excellent guitar music during brunch.

Take the Puerto Nuevo exit off the toll road and turn right, Ruben's is about 3/4 of a mile north from the exit.

Ruben's has been a great place to watch the Pay per view boxing and drink until you give your keys to someone else.

While the buffet is great, eating there any other time is a good choice, too.

We had dinner at El Nido in Rosarito when we were there last in 2006. We stayed at the Festival Hotel and we asked about a good place to eat and
were told to go there. The food was ok but the place is too dark. How many have eaten at El Nido.

El Nido in Rosarito, Great food and service. Try the deer liver appetizer, and the calamari is good.

El Nido used to be fabulous. Since the remodel/enlargement it's lost some of it's quality. IMHO

Yes, you are right, Ruben is one heck of a good person.

When some of his kitchen crew were involved in a head-on collision (government official, driving drunk) just a few months ago, he paid the hospital bills and made sure the employees filed for compensation.

We've known him since he was the manager at La Fonda (before the new owners took over).

He keeps tight quality control over what he serves and is genuinely happy to see you.

He is a great host and restauranteur.
