Just keeping it simple... sand, sea and 4WD!
ILikeMex - 2-25-2008 at 05:44 PM
Sweet. It looks like you could have been right on the other side of the dune from where I was in the first pict.
I don't have 4x4:

This is looking to the north from where that above photo was taken... You can see Laguna Percebu, a mile away... Got to have 4WD and deflated tires to
get out there... Keeps it nice and uncrowded!
It was real cool that night

Great camping spots

One of my favourite spots, especially when as uncrowded as this. Only here for a couple of days this time... we're hardly spread out at all. Being a west coaster all my life I enjoy watching the sun rise over the water.

cool camps
gringorio - 2-25-2008 at 07:54 PM
Nice subject - it seems that most of us camp when we visit Baja, unless we're fortunate enough to live there!
Here are a few:
A camp by Islas Encantadas on my solo trip
A camp on Isla Montague - only good at low tide!
Not a soul in sight - approaching the Colorado River Delta

Awesome pictures. In all of them you can see the solitude and beauty that Baja offers. It is unlike anywhere else. You can drive around and exlpore
and when you find a place you like just decide "we're here".Bob H - 2-26-2008 at 09:29 AM

Water was 100 yards from camp at low and 15 feet from it at high tide.
This could get to be a big thread!!!

Grover,
Does that picture bring back memories for me. 6 months after your visit I visited Cabo for the first time.
Talk about turning back time. I wonder if you can even get to your campsite now with all the new hotels.
KenILikeMex - 2-26-2008 at 04:27 PM
I miss being able to camp down at the beaches around Cabo and San Jose. They are all taken up now by hotels and golf courses.
Gadget, I thought about camping at the end of the beach there under that cliff (assuming it is where I think it is) - always worried about the high
tide comming into camp though.

Not a chance.
We spent a month camping on the sand at Costa Azul for our Honeymoon in 1980. Solid condos now with very little access.Gadget - 2-26-2008 at 07:09 PM

Know your tides. We were pushing the limits on this one for sure.BajaWarrior - 2-26-2008 at 07:32 PM

If you go to Mia's Bahia de los Angeles forums you will see more photos from the top of Mike's Mountain from Wiles... great stuff! Graham Mackintosh
stayed up there when Mike was still alive and described it in his first book. I recall that Mike took a little bit up each time he climbed the
mountain. A photo of the rain water collection device is interesting...

This is my offshore picture of the same place. A familiar landmark is the osprey nest atop the huge rock. This is near the old mine.
