Yes, Banamex opened earlier this winter and is the first and only bank here in Los Barriles.

Thanks Eli - cool for LB, and it opened as scheduled it seems (last I was told was Dec, 2007) -- pretty impressive!

Yep, pretty amazing, after all these years, we have a bank.
Los Barriles has grown so much since I moved back here in 89. I remember just to put a meal together out of what Chapitos and Estalfo's, (the only
grocery stores in the area), was a challenge. You know a can a tuna, a loaf of bimbo white bread, MAYBE an avocado and a tomato, a little mayonnaise,
(forget the mustard it really wasn't happening back than), no pri made tortillas, one either had to make flour or corn tortillas, of course there was
usually fish, dried beans, rice, pasta, but green chilis, onions, potatoes was a hit and miss sort of deal.
Now we have an organic vege stand across from Chapitos. And, Chapitos, well, I bet we have 5 different brands of yogurt, several different brands of
whole wheat bread, all different kinds of cheeses, meats, even Wasabe.
I have a friend from Cardonal that is the same age as my daughter, in her early 30's. She remembers on occasion going without eating sometimes,
because the only transportation from Cardonal to Los Barriles was by boat, and when the wind hit for weeks at a time, well, they were stuck up there
and even their dried fish supply would run out.
Times sure have changed and fast!

Banamex -affiliated w/ Wells Fargo Bank? If so can, I use their ATM w/o fees?

I believe that the old ATM machine was removed after some funny business.
The new Banamex was open but the ATM was out of money when I stopped in about 4 weeks ago.
The rest of the building that houses the Banamex was still in the finishing stages of construction at the time.

The ATM at the Banamex worked fine last week.
Re: Wells Fargo, $5.00 charge for any international ATM. It's the same charge no matter what the amount, so we always try to take 5000 pesos at a
time.
If I wasn't so lazy I'd probably look for a new bank with a better deal on atm's in Mexico, but it's such a pain changing banks...

Banamex

We went to the new Banamex in Los Barriles yesterday to transfer our account from San Jose. Needless to say, it ain't that easy...
First, we have to go to San Jose to close our account with them and get our dinero. Then we have to go to the new bank with all the info we needed to
open our original account in San Jose: FM-3, Fideocomiso, passport, copy of utility bill, etc.
Why, oh why, does it have to be so difficult? OK, OK, it's Mexico.
And, they were out of money in the ATM. ;-)
