La Paz - Fish Tacos

bobw - 2-28-2008 at 09:23 AM

I'm just looking for a couple of recommendations for the best fish tacos in La Paz. Heading down there for a bit and would hate to miss out.

We went there on Kate's recommendation and really liked the shrimp tacos.

Don't know if it has a name. 11 pesos for fish tacos and 14 for shrimp, generous portions, yummy crunchy batter, friendly folks. Open mornings until at least 12 or 1 (haven't tried in the evening). There are only a couple of tables there, but everybody shares, and they'll package your food to go if you wish.

If you are driving into La Paz, just as you are entering Centenario a place on the right called Mr. Taco very good.

All the places mentioned above for tacos de mariscos are good suggestions.

However, don't hesitate to try what we call "heart attack in a bun." That would be the street hotdogs wrapped in bacon. We generally purchase ours from the cart just beside Carlos and Charlies Restaurant. However, I'm sure there are many other good ones. This guy is only open in the evenings.

When you tire of pescado don't forget to hit Ranch Viejo's for their arrachera tacos.

Well La Paz has finally gone upscale with fish taco restaurants sprouting up like McDonalds on every corner. Four or five years ago the one and only fish taco stand was the Hermanos Gonzalez right across from the Mas Store. When we were there for Carnaval we went back and had a big batch for nostalgia and they were even better than we remembered. Some things never change.

Keep the suggestions coming. We arrived in La Paz last night, so we've got 10 days of meals ahead of us.

Rancho Viejo is always good; where we stay is about 3 blocks away, so we're frequent visitors. I'm sure Tres Virgenes will see us at least one evening; last year we had a great meal there...

The one seafood place that I had a fantastically outrageous seafood c-cktail at last year seems to be doing some renos this morning; I don't know whether they're opening at night or not; I guess that I'll have to see

Peace, love, fish tacos and a few Pacifcos to wash it all down with....
