Renew FMT?

vandy - 2-29-2008 at 05:01 PM

Well, I've done it again and spent too long down here, and my FMT (Tourist card) expires in March sometime.

I am down near Los Cabos, but could take a trip to La Paz if necessary.

Where would I get this done?

Should I just pretend I don't have one and get another?
That wouldn't be my favorite option.
Should I show my current FMT and ask for an extension until June?
Any idea of costs?

Thank you all kindly
JohnV

How expired are you?

They will wonder why a 'tourist on vacation' needs more than the 6 months issued?

Officially, if you are deep in Mexico and need more time before going back home, you can ask for an extention... This will be easier if your FM-T was only issued for 90 day instead of the max. 180 days.

Tell us what they say and do to you, if that is your decision!

The thing expires in Mid to late March sometime. It was issued for 180 days, but I spent a couple of months back in the states and didn't renew, like an idiot.

I guess I'll just go to Cabo on Monday and see what they say

I'll tell y'a;ll what happens.

Please let us know what they say Vandy. I've never heard of an extension beyond 180 days.
Is it too much a hassle to go to the border zone and get another fmt?

I'll check that out, Kate; Thanks!

I have some $ in the bank, but no steady income except for the few months per year I work in the States.

Might be a problem...

Thanks for all of your input...

I went to Inmigracion across from McDonalds in Cabo San Lucas and asked if I could get an extension on my FMT. They saw me within 5 minutes of signing in, I showed them my FMT, and told me to be out of Mexico by April1, and then I could come back. They were not persuaded by any of my Spanish, "Can't we work this out?".

Anyway, I asked for and got the FM3 paperwork, but it seems I'd have to go back to the US and get my last three bank statements and pay about $180 US anyway.

I'll fly back and get another. Time to do taxes.

Oh my god...WHAT IF I HAVE A JOB waiting for me. NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
