I have found the reason for writing my books--snared within this quote--

"My books kept me from the ring, the dog-pit, the tavern, and the saloon." Thomas Hood

Thought you would want to know.

Thanks Bernie....

What Ol' Tom didn't mention was his sickly self that chose writing, mainly poetry, as a pastime for his creative mind. He wouldn't have been at all competitive in any of life's dog-pits of the day.
I think the quote fits you better than Tom. Adopt it as your own. Tom would like that.

Thanks again.

Folks

Baja Bernie - 3-12-2008 at 05:07 PM

This is the great thing about Dennis--he really knows what hs is talking about.

Diver - 3-12-2008 at 05:19 PM

Although I was a bit uncertain as to the meaning (or background) of the original post, it is clear as a bell after Dennis's response.

And while we're on the subject, although or because I have heard a few opinions to the contrary, I must say that Dennis has been a wonderful addition to Nomads. A modern day intellectual !! Thanks.

Diver - 3-12-2008 at 05:21 PM

Also, to Bernie;

Very glad to see you "getting on" and accomplishing goals.
Good on you !!
.

bancoduo - 3-12-2008 at 05:30 PM

Is Dennis in trouble again?

DENNIS - 3-12-2008 at 05:40 PM

I'm wondering, Duo.

Thanks Diver and Bernie. I'm going to print this thread so as to read it when times get tough here. Won't be long, will it.

bajabound2005 - 3-12-2008 at 06:32 PM

And Dennis makes a darn good neighbor, too!

almost comforting after so many posts that hammered this guy for the atypical 'ugly expat' that he continually exposes himself to be. keep it up!

bajalera - 3-12-2008 at 10:19 PM

Is this Kumbaya Day, or what?

bigmike - 3-13-2008 at 11:08 AM

Dennis, this must have all gone to your head as you didn't show up at Paty's for coffee this morning. Were you drunk from all the glory?
Actually Dennis is a great guy and a good friend.

No. I did a day trip to Gringolandia. Needed a culture fix. A visit to a real HomeDpo.
Hasta Maņana.

I know what you mean Dennis. I consider the Home Depot a sort of stress retreat, I can spend hours there but when it comes to the mexican version I stress just thinking of going to one. Same for Costco.

All shopping is stressfull. I think the problem comes from having to concentrate on aisle after aisle of objects stacked up on one another. It just tires the brain.

Men have it right, though. Just walk straight to the product you're interested in get the hell out.

I go to WalMart, Ensenada just to look at the produce. They do a really good job in that department.

That's true and I also like their bakery, so they do have good points.

Roberto - 3-14-2008 at 07:52 PM

Wow, 27 replies and almost 1000 views on a thread about Dennis. Frankly, I didn't think you were that popular. I know I never will be. :wow:

DENNIS - 3-14-2008 at 07:57 PM

Probably not.

DENNIS - 3-14-2008 at 08:02 PM

Oh, I didn't mean that. I'm sorry. What I meant was Absolutly Not.

Santiago - 3-14-2008 at 09:01 PM

Is it just me or has anyone else notice that the gull hasn't posted a response?

The Gull is a Girl?????

Sharksbaja - 3-14-2008 at 09:54 PM

She has given us clues to gender all along. In ancient Chinese legend, the ghoul was an active personification of evil and had as his concubine an equally evil but subserviant female cohort called The Gull. The Ghoul and The Gull terrorized the minds of man and child alike.
Our Gull [ how endearing ] has chosen to advertise her gender hopeing nobody would be conversant in Chinese folklore but, at the same time throwing out the baited hook wondering if it might be taken.
Taken it was. Gull is female, in my opinion.

Paula - 3-14-2008 at 10:11 PM

Given the information contained in the two preceding posts should one conclude that a unisex bathroom would be labeled ghouls?

Lots to think about in that reply, Dennis...

Baja Bernie - 3-15-2008 at 06:59 AM

Good grief...you should write a book... Ah! yes, a bano book.

This has been a refreshing post. Glad I had something to do with it.

Took me until now to notice that you paid me a compliment in your opening comments.

Thank You.

P.S. Now it is 41 and 1207....this was the edit.

15 minutes, or more, of fame?

Lee - 3-15-2008 at 11:20 AM

Bernie's THE MAN.

Dennis -- Sage beyond his years. Renaissance Man.

Gull? Let's NOT go there.

Where's Bill?

Paula

The Gull - 3-15-2008 at 11:55 AM

Mennis, Lee and Duo wish for many things in life.

Having insight and common sense are on their lists.

They mistakenly make this part of the board their personal playground in their feeble attempts to discredit other Nomads with their fabricated tales. Three egos need to be fed at the expense of others who don't want to see it on this part of the board.

Osprey - 3-15-2008 at 02:38 PM

This is one of the finest games of dispursion casting I have ever witnessed. Only because Dennis would stoop to gender picking others on the board I am forced to say that I knew the "Old" Dennis. Knew him when he was "Dennis of Venice", at a time when I bought hundreds of T shirts from him at his little kiosk -- many had words on them now used only by T.V. comedy performers.

Damn Osprey

Baja Bernie - 3-15-2008 at 08:28 PM

Are you releasing us to dreg up the past of many of the posters here? Including who!
