Mulege Rental House OK?

I doubt any hurricanes will be around that time o' year, but hey, it did slow down "urban sprawl"! Hmmmmm......

Actually, if you haven't seen the rio lately you are in for a surprise.

The only thang to fear is fear itself. Oh, and murderers, thugs and banditos.

bremptg, Go for it! Have spent the last few months on the north side of the Rio at Huerta Don Chano's No problems and have met some fine people.

bremptg, I have lived in this area for a long time and consequently know that place quite well. I think your choice of renting along the rio is a good one and certainly one of the best spots in Mulege. We have friends who regulary rent one of Don Johnson's duplex's along that stretch of river and they are always 'happy as clams at high tide.'

There is good security there and it seems to have a lower incidence of crime, but naturally you will practice common sense regarding your belongings. There have literally been thefts everywhere these last few years...and this section is no exception. Auto theft, boat theft, plane theft have all happened, but don't waste so much time worrying about it...just be 'aware', keep things locked up, and you will be fine.

Bugs should not be any problem from mid-November through May. Late spring and summers are another story. You would need a blood transfusion every week.

Daytime traffic is not too bad. You might watch out for occasional speeding four-wheelers driven by visiting 'week-end warriors.' They seem to think the river road is a speedway. The noise levels are very low at night. The only bothersome sounds might be a couple of pickups pulling boats towards the boat ramp in the pre-dawn hours. (Cummins diesel is a damn fine engine, but a mite loud! :rolleyes

A real plus are the vendors selling door-to-door..their products can be quite varied...like shrimp, scallops, oysters, granny's tamales, honey, and pickled octopus.

Be prepared for power surges and brownouts, which happen from time to time. No sweato...it always comes back on..sooner or later.

A minor annoyance is the strob light on the cell tower across the river. That bright light flashing every few seconds at night will drive you insane...INSANE, I TELL YOU, INSANE!!!..pant, pant..

Another plus is that it's a scenic short walk to many fine bistros and cafes...and a fine hike along the rio to downtown Mulege if you are needing some excercise. If a fisherman, check out the Jungla bar scene from 4 to 6 or so for mucho angling information from local sportsfishermen. Good talk, good plain dinners. Very popular chili rellenos dinners on Thursdays make it a social event. Serenidad Hotel Resort is close by, as is La Sirena just a few doors away along the river. Both great spots to dine.

Both sides of the rio are being developed at a rapid rate these days. But the area you are interested in is already almost full along the waterfront, so nothing new for you there. The riverfront walkways are not being worked on quite yet...this is still Baja, you know. Next will come the adjoing bike path..then the dog park...then the frisbee field...then..(can you imagine a rainbow and spotless yachties with umbrella drinks)....The Marina!

Whatever you decide, you won't be disappointed. You have already chosen a great village. Have a good time next winter. "You're a daisy if you do."
