last evening we were on one of the boas anchored at santispac (mulege)
a whale swam by
sorry no picture
we saw him "spout" twice
a couple of days ago a whale was "out front"
i thought the spout was oil from the boat next to it...
but the boater was chasing the whale..
we learned this later in the day
these are small whales and are not usually in the bay this late in the season

Bob y Susan and all....you bet, there has been quite a bit of whale activity around Bahia de Concepcion the last couple of weeks.
Saw small family of 4 the other day at Pt. Conception headed inside the bay. Spouts off in the distance here and there the week before.
3 mornings ago, I was up very early, made some coffee, and took a cup down to the water's edge to watch sunrise come up over the bay. It was still
pitch black except for some starlight and I had just sat down to sip my java. Ah...nice.
WHOOSH!..that whale spouted so loud and so close I thought I would be showered with spray for sure. (..and we know what that smells like!) Startled
me so much I sloshed coffee all over my sweats.
Always something happening down here....
...Hey! You don't suppose that spout could have been...? It's almost that time of year again.

It's great to see whales in Conception again! They come in sporadically, used to see them more often, infact, we were awaken one AM in the early '60's
while sleeping on Coyote beach by the sound of a whale breathing just offshore. Maybe they are coming back because there is less netting of fish.
Bob and Susan, we were going to visit you from our little boat last week, but you were busy with someone visiting from a large cabin cruiser. Will

I think you're right, Vince. There does seem to be more and more whale activity around the Mulege area these last few years. We see spouts
frequently when boating around the Bay and Pt. Conception....usually from Dec - April. Ones we could ID were finbacks, sperm, and some grays that got
off the beaten path. Also an observer/photographer buddy from San Lucas Cove reported a few Orcas amongst his other whale sightings.
One can only hope that this trend continues.
Sorry to hear Pat came down with a cold...I know the feeling and hope she has recovered by now. You know the routine, colds here make the rounds
until the whole community gets them. Lots of hand-shaking and hugs take thier toll. (Next season I swear I'm gonna wear gloves and a mask from
November to May!)

we're just back from a little getaway campout on the gulf and I saw a large group of whales heading south off of Puerto Escondido...they were too far
to see what they were but the heartshaped spouts looked like grays or perhaps humpbacks or fins...lovely sight...but boy was I surprised by Pto
Escondido...I always thought there was a village there so we stopped to pitch our tent on a little beach just south of there and went to "town" in
search of tacos and beer...and only found locked gates of a big marina????? What the? had to eat rice and eggs over a windy campfire....ah...roughing
it! (good thing I had a bloody mary on hand)

We were camped on Santispac for 10 days building up to the Easter Holiday and never saw any whales, but we did see too many dolphin to count and
paddled with a seal one morning.
This shot was when a pod of about 50 dolphin were whipping up the water something fierce.

We have had literally hundreds of Dolphin at a time out in front our beach house which is about 25 miles south of San Felipe.
Normal sightings are around a dozen, but this year, the numbers have increased which is great to see. They are less than a mile from shore so a lot of

On our drive back to SD we stopped by Scammons Lagoon and paid 40 dollars each and went out in a panga to get up close and personal with the grey
whales, we've always wanted to do it and it was worth it. Got some great video. A few years ago we flew to Mag bay and went out there also, the
whales act differently in each place. Next will be San Ignacio where I hear they are even more friendly. At Scammons they were very close but not
quite enough to touch them. One bumped our boat a good one. It made a 14 hour trip into a 17 hour trip.
