Hey Marie Rose, you beat me to it!

From the pages of the Baja Western Onion:

A BENEFIT FOR THE ANIMALS: OK, so some of us were talking about how we could help the El Refugio Pet Sanctuary in Pescadero since their major fund raiser, the Home and Garden Tour, was canceled. So, we came up with "Jammin For The Animals," a music benefit to help Mariposa and Memo to buy dog food for their "kids."

MUSICIANS AND ENTERTAINERS WANTED: We're looking for talent who would like to showcase their stuff. This will be an "Open Mike" opportunity, and should be a really fun event for you, your friends and our community. We would like to hear from musicians, groups, singers and entertainers of all varieties and skill levels so we can plan for the event. Even if you don't play an instrument, other musicians might be able to provide some backup.

NOW APPEARING: We're pleased to announce that we've already received commitments to perform by the very talented Jazz Violinist and Guitarist, Daniel Siqueiros, Jazz and Pop Vocalist, Tracy Monk Durland, and (of course) members of our own quartet, "En Medio Del Ritmo". We'll announce other artists throughout the week in the Baja Western Onion.

AFFORDABLE: Since "Jammin For The Animals" is a non-profit fund raiser, we spent some time thinking about what to charge. We wanted to make it very affordable for everyone, yet still make a little money for El Refugio. We're pleased to announce that tickets are only $10 in advance, and $12 at the door. We think that's a bargain for a day full of good music while helping out for a good cause.

FOOD AND DRINK: Pizza baked to order from La Buena Vida will be available for purchase at the event. Volunteers at the event will take your order and then deliver a fresh, hot pizza right to your table. We'll also be serving free snacks and goodies, and the bar will be open for purchasing beer, wine, c-cktails and soft drinks.

SUNDAY, MARCH 30 at 3:00 PM: Come join us for a day full of good music, food and fun. Tickets are available at El Tecolote Book Store, Maya Roca Realty, La Cañada Del Diablo, and from Maryann Douglas and me. To sign up to perform, please call or e mail me as soon as possible. - Alan, alan (-at-) baja1.com, 612 117 0484.

Our thanks to everyone for helping to make "Jammin For The Animals" happen on such short notice.

There are still tickets available for the "Jammin' For The Animals" Fund Raiser to be held tomorrow, Sunday March 30, 2 PM at La Cañada Del Diablo. The following musicians are slated to perform:

Daniel Siqueiros • Miguel De Hoyos • Alex DePue

Jayne Cameron • The Yandarra Percussion Group • Tracy Monk Durland • Doug Alms

Isabel Smyth and Raul Cavazos • Sin Rastro • En Medio Del Ritmo

Additional Acts To Be Announced

Also, there will a special "50/50" Raffle at the Event. The way this works is that we will be selling raffle tickets throughout the Event, and one lucky winner will win 50% of the raffle ticket sales. The other 50% will go to Mariposa and her "kids" at the El Refugio Animal Sanctuary in Pescadero. You must be present to win the Raffle, and we'll keep drawing until we have a winner.

Free snacks will be served, and pizza will be available for purchase by special arrangement with La Buena Vida. Volunteers will take your order, and then deliver a fresh hot pizza right to your table! Jesse Rutowski, owner of La Buena Vida, has graciously offered to donate a portion of your purchase to the benefit. Barbara Perkins of La Cañada Del Diablo is donating profits from beverage sales. Daniel Siqueiros will be donating from the sale of his CDs at the Event. And, of course, all our wonderful Musicians are donating 100% of their time and effort to play for your entertainment.

This promises to be a sell-out so please purchase your tickets in advance. Tickets are 100 pesos in advance and 120 pesos at the door. Tickets are still available at El Tecolote Book Store, Maya Roca Realty, La Cañada Del Diablo, and from Maryann Douglas and me. - Alan, alan@baja1.com, 612 117 0484.

Absolutely incredible success!!!! The event almost made as much profit as did the Home and Garden Tour that had to be cancelled. The energy was so great and the music was terrific. There were 220 tickets sold. It was heartwarming to have people come to the door just to give a donation although they were not able to attend... (even a few Nomads!!) Hopefully we can make this a yearly event:bounce::bounce:

Really happy to hear it was a success---it sounded like a wonderful event for a very good cause.

Congrats.

An Embarrassment Of Riches...

The musical kind, that is. If you couldn't attend, or haven't already heard from your friends or neighbors who went, the "Jammin For The Animals" Fund Raiser at La Cañada Del Diablo on Sunday was a major success.

A standing-room only crowd was entertained throughout the day by all our wonderful musicians who showed up to volunteer their time and energy to perform:

Daniel Siqueiros • Miguel De Hoyos • Alex DePue • "Calamity" Jayne Cameron and Friends • Isabel Smyth and Raul Cavazos • Tracy Monk Durland • Doug Alms • The Yandarra Percussion Group • Sin Rastro Alguno (Ernesto Pardo, Josue Castillo and Ernesto Miranda) • En Medio Del Ritmo (Fred Hagen, Eddie Tibbals, Alberto Poli and Alan Thompson)

And special thanks to all our volunteers, supporters and donors:

El Tecolote Book Store • Maya Roca Realty • Leon and Jesse of La Buena Vida Restaurant • Don and Alicia of Cafe D'licia • Barbara Perkins and her wonderful staff at La Cañada Del Diablo • Daniel Siqueiros and Ellen Musch • Angelique Schorenstein • Carmen Gutierrez • Jan Turner • Jenny Armit • Maria de Lourdes • MarieRose Hagen • Peter Lepine • Sam McCue • Susan Stronberg • Tallulah Armit • Wendy Rains • Zandra Frame

All in all, the event netted over 31,500 pesos to help support the El Refugio Animal Sanctuary. One lucky "50/50" Raffle winner took home a prize of over 3,000 pesos, and everyone took home a day full of wonderful music!

If anyone has pictures or videos from the event, we would really like to see them and share them with others who could not attend the event. We'll construct a web page commemorating the event on the Baja Western Onion web site, and would like to include your pictures or videos. Please send them to alan (-at-) baja1.com.

In the meantime, here is a video of Alex and Miguel playing their signature medley of Stairway to Heaven, Dust in The Wind and Hotel California that they also performed for our event:

Thanks so much to everyone for coming together on such short notice to make this event such a success! Should we do another one, sometime?
