TJ to San Felipe

SyntaxJO - 3-25-2008 at 10:19 PM

I'm heading to San Felipe and I'm crossing into TJ. I know you have to think fast to get on the toll roads towards Encinitas but does anyone remember how the routs work if I want to drive to Mexicali? I hear the drive in beautiful so I'd like to cross at TJ.

Also - how would you rate the road from San F. to Mex 1?? I got stuck in the worst place possible in Baja ( MAP OF WHERE I GOT STUCK ) so it can't be worse that the road I was on.

BTW - if anyone needs a ride to San F. or Bahia de Los Angeles let me know!

What about getting a Travel Visa - and will I still get that nice scenery?

If you cross at Otay Mesa, it's a direct route to Mexicali via Industrial Blvd then the toll road. One left turn then a straight shot!!!

Look for the INM office at the border to get your FM-T (Tourist Card/ visa). If 7 days or less, it is free... Otherwise pay at the nearest bank and return to INM for final stamp. I am not sure if there is a bank you can walk to from the Otay border... I always get it at Tijuana... where the bank teller window is 6 doors from INM. At Tecate, it is across the street.

Yes, the scenery is fine from Otay east or even Tecate east.

However, to save money and time and still see the same mountain scenery, stay on I-8 from San Diego east... it's free, it's faster, it's less hassle. Take 98 to Calexico at the bottom of the mountain, then 111 to the border.
