Dog Friendly Ensenada---again

DianaT - 3-28-2008 at 08:01 PM

We have the dog friendly lists and threads from before, but would really like some current information if possible.

We are looking for a dog friendly hotel at the south end of Ensenada or just south of Ensenada.

We don't need fancy, just clean and decent. On our way back to the states, we often stay at the little Hotel Sonora on the highway just north of Colonet, but sometimes we want to go just a little further.

Thanks
Diane and John

In Estero Beach, Ensenada Beach House. Turn left (coming from the south) at the 2nd signal in Chapultepec (the turn off to Estero Beach Resort.) Continue, going PAST the left turn to Estero Beach Resort. It will be on your left. It also houses Mario's Restaurant. Nice little place, looks pretty secure as well. Owner is Tom Polley. www.ensenadabeachhouse.com

Thanks---that is one we thought looked like a possibility.

Welcome to nomads, and check you u2u, please. I sent one to you. If you don't know where that is, look up in the right hand corner.

I was going to menton the Azteca Inn. If you google that, you'll find their phone number.
When do you need to know, Diane? I can stop by and ask if there's time. Then, I can stumble up the street and get a pastrami sandwich at the Cafe Bohemia.

Thanks Dennis, but our schedule is never absolute. We may try it the next time we return from Bahia Asuncion and we have no idea when that will be. The idea that it is near the Cafe Bohemia, well that helps. Love Mexican food, but on our way home, something real different often sounds good.

But you can tell us if that pastrami is really good New York style kosher pastrami----there is pastrami and then there is pastrami.

Sorry Diane, I'm having trouble with the U2U!! To answer your question, we stay there 3 or more times a year with two Border Collies that run into the office when we check in. I've never asked if they "accept dogs"...my husband has been stopping there for many years...before me & dogs. I just assumed....:?::?:

PS I'll keep trying U2U!

Thanks---guess you don't need to ask---the dogs do it for you.:lol:

I sent you another U2U with a few more instructions---it is confusing at first. Make sure the reply button is marked, then go down and hit submit changes. Type your message before or after the quote and then bingo---send.

A bit of unsolicited advice--hold out another day and go to Factor's Deli on Pico Blvd in West LA for the real thing.

Making my mouth water---not good for keyboard.:lol:

When I was growing up in Temple City in the San Gabriel Valley, we had a place called Mike's Hot Dog Stand. Mike Apple, the owner, was from New York and his kosher pastrami, kosher hot dogs, and beef dips were fantastic---all sold out of rather raggedy looking take-out place.

It was one of those places where he and the emplyoyees screamed and yelled at each other, and if they were busy, they yelled at the customers----none of this may I help you stuff, but more like, whada you want and hurry up!

But we all ate there LOTS. We had open campus during high school and ate there everyday, but we had to whisper the order if we changed from our usual order---he knew what everyone ordered and was prepared.

When he finally added a very small seating area, he was very proud of it and it was really tacky, but we loved it. Mike made LOTS of money from that little place. It was never as good after he sold it, and it is gone now.

Gees, was that an off-topic trip down memory lane.:lol:

Sorry, but I am still looking for finding pastrami that good and maybe, just maybe it will be in Baja. :bounce:

Yep,
Can vouch for this place. The Mocos crew have pulled in there before to group up before heading south. Rooms are clean "B" grade, center courtyard to secure vehicles, they close the gate around midnight, pretty quiet as it seems to be out of the bar district a bit. Didn't try the grub there but a good taco stand just up the street on left heading back to the Hiway.

PS If they let the Mocos crew in there, surely they will allow your beautiful pups :!::biggrin:

Anyone know of any dog friendly motels in the Calafia to La Fonda stretch? I think Poco Cielo says it's dog friendly. As well as La Fonda and New Port Hotel (as stated above).
