Flying doctors in Asuncion

shari - 4-12-2008 at 07:28 PM

I would like to heartfully thank the Truckee chapter of the Medicos Voladores for comiing to Asuncion for 2 days. They saw over a hundred patients and man did I see alot of happy faces coming out of the clinic with new glasses! They did eye exams and gave out glasses and had a women's health nurse to check our plumbing and do cancer screening. These gals ROCKED! Mil gracias amigos.

Mike, do you have Galen's book, 'AIR BAJA!'? See pages A-6 and A-7... Runway 16/34: Length 4,796', elev. 75'. "RWY is excellent hardpack gravel... be alert for livestock, vehicles, pedestrians".

On page G-5 Galen says that Bahia Asuncion is "...the best unpaved airstrip on the Pacific Coast."

yes,:biggrin::biggrin: i have it, it is great, i have talked with Galen several times on the phone too.
i'd like to see him update it.

would be nice if the strip was closer to town or had military tho.
the serenidad theft monday will impact many who want to go to remote strips.

i just wanted to see the other planes parked there. i am pretty familiar with the area.
i think abreojos and ballebas rene's campos strips make better options today if you want to be by your plane overnight.

i'll hire a guard for asuncion. period.

Mike,
I don't remember ever hearing of a problem with a plane in Asuncion.
Although we have recently heard of a problem in Abre....
You have been talking about being the first one to visit Asuncion for almost 2 years now.
Maybe you should actually go there before you make any judgements.

I agree Diver, the nice part about the landing strip being remote is its unlikely that anybody would bother any parked planes and you are right, its not the Bahia Asuncion way to bother stuff like that.
