And elsewhere.

Reading through the various articles and test reviews in the current issues of PC Magazine and PC World regarding Windows XP versus Vista and the successor, Windows 7 due in late 2009, I was interested to find out about a project to produce an open-source free Operating System fully compatible with Windows XP. The "ReactOS" Alpha-release 0.3.4 is available as a free .Zip download at: http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html in two versions: Install (27.1MB) and Live (26.6MB). The Live version allows you to burn a CD and run the OS without installing it to your hard drive just as Ubuntu Linux Live.

The website lists their Short-Term plan is to release an Alpha 0.3.5 this month. Medium-Term plan is to release a Beta of 0.3.5 while the Long-Term plan is N/A.

What the Long-Term plan probably should say is: Hope like Heck that Microsoft's Legal Team doesn't beat our Brains out.

While this isn't something the average "user" should consider, like Linux, it may be of interest to those who are more computer literate and interested in experimentation.

How True

The Eternal Beta.
