Flying to Cabo late in May, which is the better way to get to La Paz?

If you're asking if you should take the east or west route; take the east route. As you leave the airport take a left and you're on the way. 2 1/2 hours to La Paz.
Otherwise you have to get though San Jose and Cabo first.

Better for scenery or speed?

Are you flying to the Los Cabos Int'l. airport (which is north of San Jose del Cabo)... or are you flying into the Cabo San Lucas paved runway, just north of Cabo San Lucas?

I think it is a pretty close toss up (in time) from Los Cabos Int'l. to La Paz to go either way, but would say use Hwy. 1 as you would not be driving any more south before heading north... It is prettier too going through the Los Barriles and San Bartolo area, IMO.

From Cabo San Lucas to La Paz, go north on Hwy. 19, via Todos Santos for a much faster and shorter route.

Why don't you just fly in to La Paz and make it easy?

What is the time difference between the two routes? We are flying into Los Cabos.

I would go the East Cape route up for sure. The traffic can be horrendous going through San Lucas. Leave early coming back and go through Todos Santos.
What time do you arrive?
If you do decide to go through San Lucas, take the CUOTA road just as you leave the airport. It costs 25pesos(or it did the last time I took it) and gets you around San Jose very quickly. If you decide to come back through Todos Santos, take the CUOTA road at the big yellow Fonatur bow/ribbon in front of Mega.

From the airport north to La Paz will take about 2 1/2 hours.
From the airport southwest through San Lucas then Todos Santos to La Paz can take 30 to 60 minutes more with traffic through San Jose and San Lucas.

Why not fish with Cabo Magic while you're there ?

So you should be leaving the airport around one. That gives you about 5 hours to get to La Paz before dark.
Since you leave at 4, you should be at the airport around 2 and that means leaving La Paz around 11 to be safe.
I would go through Todos Santos going up. You should have plenty of time to stop in TS briefly. I am not one to make plans for on the way TO the airport so the direct route from La Paz would be my choice. If you find yourself at the airport too early go to La Palapa right as you come into the airport and grab some of your last Baja food.

BTW you will see La Palapa restaurant as you make a left to get onto the CUOTA road...dont forgot to use this road, it will save you at least 30 minutes maybe an hour by avoiding San Jose traffic.

Thanks for all the great advise Judy! Flying and not driving I am going to miss all my regular snack places....shrimp tacos in San Quentin, scallops at Mallirimo in Guerrero Negro, Lobster Coronado at Tio Lupes in Loreto, etc,etc........
