Ah Judy - that egret looks like it's flirting with you, doing a little egret dance. Very nice.

Regarding the blob - I think a nice name would be Harold.

Judy,

Picture number 3 looks like a pelagic snail like the one below. It may have been carried by currents and finally deposited on your beach.

Names?

So instead of Bob the Blob, it should be Gail the Snail.

unless someone sexes it and discovers it is a "he," in which case he could be

dale the snail:tumble:

This from a web site in Sidney, Australia on a pelagic snail called Janthina, or Violet Snail.

They will attach themselves to floating driftwood and end up washing up on the beach... Very interesting.

More info than we needed.... :P

bajajudy - 4-16-2008 at 07:13 AM

I am inclined to call her Violet.

Some Nomad asked my husband why I was always asking what things were. He thought that since we had all these books that I could look them up instead.....

WHAT! and miss the chance to know that we have Bobby Burrito on the board.....I dont think so:P

bajajudy - 4-16-2008 at 01:22 PM

There were thousands of these poor creatures this morning.

Judy,

We have something similar in our parts. These are called 'sailor of the sea' and although a different animal entirely it too lives on the surface of the ocean and is carried by ocean currents. I see them on our beaches when our upwhelling currents stop and either an onshore wind or current develops and drops them off on our shores. There's probably more to it than that as they always arrive in huge numbers in 2 or 3 days.
