on outskirts of Santa Rosalillita where they are working on the escalera nautica still i hear.
the 17th ed. of Senterfitts guide has 2 x RWs shown but i don't trust that info today, too old.
Hanselmann's book is not here in my office but from memory he never showed one.
any bodies here driven by there recently?BajaGuera - 4-20-2008 at 03:01 PM
Hope it helpsLancairDriver - 4-20-2008 at 03:22 PM
Hanselman's book shows 10/28 ditched. Rwy 3/21 he says is usable for the first 1500 ft. of 3. The last 3580 ft. are unusable. He also says as of the
books writing(it is several years old now) he expects it to be closed soon. So who knows the status today.standingwave - 4-20-2008 at 03:23 PM
there was a runway beside the road just before the descent into town when I was there last, but it had rows of rocks across it. I was told that it had
been "decommissioned", as well as many other remote strips, by the federal gov't in response to smuggling... that was years ago (2002) so I'd be
interested in learning what the status of it is now.David K - 4-20-2008 at 07:57 PM

yeah, Galen's is 1997 so it is long out of date.
i ahve been to all strips DK shows above except punta prieta - that one needs to be checked for authenticity / currency.
sounds like they will have to land elsewhere and get a ground rig set up.David K - 4-21-2008 at 08:05 AM
Punta Prieta runway is the closest to Santa Rosalillita... That 4,800' long paved runway was built when the highway was, in 1973... See it on the
Google Satellite images... parallel the east side of Mex. 1, in the town of Punta Prieta, a few miles south of the Bahia de loa Angeles highway
junction.capt. mike - 4-21-2008 at 08:50 AM
yep, it's there alright, but still trying to get the status - open, closed, ditched, barrels etc.
thx. might be that a medicos group is servicing it too. i have feelers out.capt. mike - 4-21-2008 at 11:36 AM

Ya I always see that old runway and think about it as an alternate. Is it usable?capt. mike - 4-21-2008 at 05:30 PM
yes, my good buddy from El Socorrito goes there to see some folks he knows.
its old crummy asphalt and weeds now growing thru , soldiers across the street, i mean highway 1 , a small tienda etc. some road side biz nada much
really, but guess i can land there. i wouldn't leave the plane tho.
the others will have to figure how to get to Rosalillita. developers i guess.David K - 4-21-2008 at 09:34 PM
Mike... you don't trust the soldiers at Punta Prieta to gaurd your plane?capt. mike - 4-22-2008 at 01:36 PM
no, not really. why should I? they aren't paid for it.
i would be ok during daytime , but over night - no. i have more in my panel than they make in more years than i could figure. and........avgas burns
pretty well in most road rigs.David K - 4-22-2008 at 05:56 PM
I meant just during the day... Santa Rosalillita is just a 25 paved miles away...capt. mike - 4-23-2008 at 07:59 AM
not bad. i hope they can arrange a ride. i'll just hang by the plane whilst they conduct mexibiz.
perchance i can engage the guerreros in a few rounds of pea nuckle.
