Bahia Balandra development....

Does anyone know the status of Bahia Balandra as regards the proposed hotel / resort development and the related disputed land ownership issue.

I heard some time ago that a developer claimed all of Balandra was private property owned by his family.

The last 3 times I was in La Paz I drove out to Balandra and noticed that a good portion of the surrounding area has been fenced of and signs posted that this is private property.

Any info on all of this would be greatly appreciated.

BALANDRA

The land around Balandra is owned or claimed to be owned by the son or grandson of a former Mexican president, Miguel Aleman, I believe.

I don't know if his ownership is in doubt, but am aware that there is large local resistance to his plans to develop the property and restrict access.

It is the wish of La Pacenos to preserve the land for local access as an ecological/recreational reserve for the benefit of the people, not the imaginary tourists the developers have wet dreams about, all of whom are supposedly multi-millionaires and bigtime golf players who will flock to the Baja once the fish stocks are depleted and the natural beauty of the place utterly destroyed.

Yeah, sure.
