article 115 of the Ley de Instituciones de Crédito

Received the following email from the bank that holds my Fideicomiso. My question is how urgent is it that they receive my information? I would rather not intrust my passport and drivers license info to the mexican post and would prefer that I deliver in person when I go down in November.

Attached to this email you’ll find the information for the payment of your trust number xxxxxxx and also the format called Know your client, please be kind to fill it out, sign it and send it by regular mail to the address that appears below. Please send a clear copy of your passport and an address proof, as well; it can be your driver’s license.

This is really urgent because otherwise, according to Mexican Laws, specifically according to the article 115 of the Ley de Instituciones de Crédito, our Institution and you, would have to pay a high amount because of a penalty, so please help us out to cover these requirements.

Instead of the Mexican post why not send it overnight by DHL or UPS?

And be sure it was actually your bank that sent the request.

I believe this is a legitimate request by banks but cant say whether this was from a legitimate source. Contact them and explain when the soonest you can get them this information without using the internet.

This information was asked from customers of a Banamex in San Carlos, Sonora recently, simply in order to retain their accounts. It was supposedly related to the fight against international terrorism and cartels. Anyway, those that failed to honor the request had their accounts summarily closed. The bank simply had a check waiting for them with their funds when they finally showed up, UNLESS they provided the info.
