BajaNomad

Menos gente?

I am just curious if any nomads out there that offer rental accomodation have noticed a decline in visitors this past winter season?
With all the publicity surrounding robberies, hijackings, etc I am wondering if this really is deterring people from visiting. My sister and I rent out a 3 bed furnished house in Todos Santos and have seen a big decline these past few months. Of course this allows us to use it more! But am wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing the same thing?

Robberies, hijackings, shootings and other acts of violence are certainly affecting tourist visits but gas has a major impact as well. We don't rent out our house in Ensenada but it is obvious that tourism has slowed down

You'll have to add "border wait times" to that list of deterrents. Add it all up and it takes a lot of the fun out of a trip to Baja.

A real big deterrent is the requirement of a passport.

Disposable income for many carefree people went away when their leveraged mortgages bit them on the a$$.

The lines at the border have been a fact of life since 9-11.

Yes, lots of contributing factors at the same time I guess.
In Todos Santos there are literally 5 or 6 times more homes for rent this year too. I guess all the construccion is finally catching up, I hate to think what it will be like in 2 years as its stinn non stop construccion vehicles in every direccion.
You really think less people will travel just because they dont have a passport? Seems like a strange deterrant to me.
Que se puede hacer?

i don't know...
we had a GREAT season!!!

now...the summer is OURS!!!
........................

passport is about $100 each
family of 4 about $400
thats an EXTRA cost for the "2-week vacation"
ALOT of extra cash outlay:D:D

i think the "day-trips" to tj or ensenada from san diego will end for a while...
people just don't plan ahead...

Yesterday (Saturday) afternoon SENTRI was 40 minutes - hate to think what the regular lanes were . . . :(

Unless you get the new "passport cards". $20 each if you already have a passport, $40 if you do not.
