El Pilon (de Las Parras) is a prominent landmark when seen from the sea approaching Loreto. Here it is from the back side, from the chapel at Rancho

The first couple of miles of the road were paved, but they are currently bypassed by a detour up the arroyo. These paved miles are over relatively
easy terrain. The rest is unpaved but in good shape for any vehicle.
Friday our esteemed Governor was in town, an reiterated his desire to pave the entire way. Along the way, winding up some of the more extreme
switchbacks, we frequently thought, "Good luck with that!"David K - 4-27-2008 at 10:01 AM

I like the olive tree. It really does look old ... in a human sort of way. Gramps used to look that way to me when I was 7.Crusoe - 4-29-2008 at 09:04 AM

Love San Javier and really enjoyed your pictures.
My favorite is also the old olive tree----looks like it could be in Sleepy Hollow.
