Border Crossing Update

tripledigitken - 4-28-2008 at 08:33 AM

We crossed northbound at Tecate yesterday at 2:30pm and it took 30 minutes.

A positive effect from all the bad news recently I suppose. The last 3 crossings I have made in 2 months have been similar. Can only imagine how bad business is suffering. Not many norte americanos seen.

Could see a couple of fires west of Valle Las Palmas also, as well as one just west and south of Tecate.

Filled up the diesel tanks at half the cost of stateside.

INSEN Card

YOU WILL NEED:
Your FM-3 or FM-2, a color copy of the picture page, AND 1 small polaroid "infantil" picture (this is a picture i.d. card). You can get them made at a POLAROID place at the corner of 16th and Ruiz in Ensenada- it
cost 40 pesos for a quad photo.

TO GET TO THE OFFICE:
Take Reforma almost to the end, north, I believe (past the Ley's supermarket) to the first 4 way stoplight past Ley's, I believe the street name is Ambar. There will be a PEMEX station on your right across the street.

Proceed straight ahead to the first 4-way stop sign and turn left. If you make it to the second 4 way stop sign (Puebla), you went too far. After you turn left follow this road as it makes a forced right turn. As you begin up this hill (do not continue to the top) you will see a street to the left - the first one - take it, the first building on the left (yellowish beige in color) is it. There isn't a name on the building until you turn into the driveway of this building.

THE PROCESS: Go into the INSEN building. There's a
lady that sits inside of the common area behind a little partition of the actual offices - take a number for your
turn.

She processes quite rapidly, about 10-15 minutes per person. The office hours are 9-3 but unless you get a number by 2pm you will have to come back the next day.

Two suggestions:

Get there early, bring a book and coffee (they have coffee in the building for free). I arrived at 10:15AM and didn't get my card until 1:45PM.

After you get your card, make 2 color copies of the card and then laminate the cards in plastic.

Good Luck!!!

What is an INSEN card? What are the benifits? How old do you have to be?

My lovely wife and I both have an FM3 but haven't heard of the INSEN card.

Thanks in advance for the info...dt

It's had a lot of play here in the past so, if you'll go to the bottom of the page and put "Insen Card" in the search window, you'll get a ton of info.

It is a Mexican Government issued senior discount card. Have to be 60+ to apply and be issued the card. Show it at all businesses, some offer discounts, some don't.
