Best restuarant in town!

fishbuck - 5-9-2008 at 04:47 PM

I will be in La Paz for a short fishing trip in 2 weeks. I will have some time for La Paz before I head to the beach.
If you only had time for one place, what would it be.
Ambiance and view will count but the food must be good and reasonably priced.
Okay Nomads, let's hear it!

Tres Virgennes is still my favorite overall but there so many that are excellent for other reasons.

Surely you're not going all the way there for just one night so consider these as well each for their own little niche of the market and remember this is just the tip of the iceburg

Rancho Viejo
Bandito's BarBQ
Bremejo
Campestre Grill

Since you posted this under the "Baja Fishing & Hunting" forum, should we assume you're looking for a fish taco stand?;)

losfrailes - 5-9-2008 at 05:27 PM

There is a restaurant that serves the best darn Arrecharra (flank steak) but I am drawing a partzeimers blank on the name. Will come up with it later if possible.

C'mon La Paz, nomads, help with the name!

If you end up in La Ventana per your original plan, try the orange juice margies at Viento del Norte and then El Rincon for dinner on the water.
.

Udo - 5-9-2008 at 06:49 PM

The Mexican locals like the "MI BARQUITO" on the south end of the malecon. I ate there a couple of months ago and was very good. & the margaritas were huge!
On weekends and m ost weekdays they have a live band or a singer that has his own music and belts out (the guy is good!) great spanish songs.

Thanks, ya that's my plan. But I'll be in La Paz for the 1st afternoon.
I'm thinking I might go out to Cortez Club and sit out there and order some food from the restuarant.
Might not be the best food or price but the view can't be beat.
Is the little bar out there also the Cortez Club or is that just the dive shop?

Is it on the Malecon? Near what?

Is the Burgerking still there? Great view from upstairs. But the food sucks!

Diver - 5-9-2008 at 08:21 PM

Yep, Burger King on the malecon !!

Udo - 5-9-2008 at 08:31 PM

Mi Barquito is about 25 doors (or about 4 short blocks) south of the Applebees.
By the way, the Buger King is behind the Applebees...the probably share their chefs, or what ever. I know they share their trash containers and parking lots as well.

I say report em and make em stand trial with those other naughty Nomads. This has just gots to stop.

longlegsinlapaz - 5-9-2008 at 08:56 PM

NAW.....this isn't a truly reportable offense! Besides I VERY RARELY hit the report button....I'm old enough to remember the "Henny Penny" & "Cry Wolf" stories, I prefer to save them for REAL offenses! ;)

I guess you didn't notice that I mentioned fishing in my 1st sentence.
This diner is in preparation for the next days fishing.

Ya know, it's all about the fishing!

acadist - 5-10-2008 at 01:23 PM

Great information:yes::yes::yes: Especially since I am going fishing there in TWO WEEKS:spingrin::spingrin::spingrin:

Is the MAR Y PEŅA restaurant still around? We ate there with Tucker and it was quite good!

I can't wait to get back to La Paz and eat at JESSE's TRES VIRGINES...

Photo of JESSE when we met him at jrbaja and Carol's back in 2004.

The Los Pelicanos bar at the Los Arcos has one of the nicest sunset views of the bay on the Malecon, besides being very comfortable and nice.
The dining room downstairs, Bermejo, serves decent food at reasonable fare in a nice atmosphere.
For years, their Chateaubriand for two, was one of our favorable meals in La Paz, till other folks discovered the bargain price and made them just about triple their price.

I still think they are reasonable for a restaurant on the Malecon

fishbuck - 5-11-2008 at 01:10 PM

Well, it's a bit of a tough choice. I have one afternoon when I arrive and one late morning when I leave.
Maybe I'll make a poll and let everyone vote on it.
But it's gotta be Malecon because that's the whole point of La Paz.
I should probably just park my car and start walking and just stop at whatever place feels right. The always works in La Paz.
Okay, drive out to La Concha and have a drink and snack at Cortez Club. The drive back and park somewhere near the pier. Walk around and try to get in tune with he local groove.
Unless things have changed dramatically that doesn't take long there.

I know you think almost everything is about fishing....but meeting fellow Nomads should be right up there so go by JESSE's TRES VIRGINES... and visit a real Nomad who can not only feed you great food but point you in the right direction for fishing.

No, not the Tuna pins but close.

Hi to my longleged guide and one who made La Paz work for me...............I'll not forget....Wonder what Dennis will do with that?

Pompano - 5-11-2008 at 04:30 PM

Meat in La Paz = Bufalo BBQ

Nomads in La Paz = Jesse's
