Canadian tourist shot dead in Mexico

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (AP) — A Canadian tourist was shot and killed late Thursday inside his hotel room in the Mexican resort city of Cabo San Lucas, police said.

State police commander Enrique Wuilar says a lone gunman shot Canadian Bouabal Bounthavorn in his hotel room.

Wuilar says the 29-year-old man was shot three times in the head. He was staying with his girlfriend at the Hotel Riu in Cabo San Lucas.

Bounthavorn's girlfriend, 24-year-old Masha Heikali, was shot in one foot.

Wuilar says no one has been arrested in the killing and investigators have no leads.

what a tragedy!

another unsolved crime amidst dozens/hundreds of people in the immediate vicinity.....

The authorities will turn this case over to the Department Of Tourism. They have a way of interpreting these events as isolated events and no threat to foreigners.

It wouldn't surprise me with the victim's names 'Bouabal' and 'Masha' sounding 'Arabic' or foreign, they will call it a terrorist or drug deal gone bad... I am sure there will be a lot more to find out???

Something is rotten in Denmark, as they say.

No 'bad-guy' kills someone with 3 shots to the head, and then simply wounds the witness with a non lethal shot to the foot

They better run cordite tests (if they have those things in Mexico) on Heikali before she makes a run for the border.

What (AP) fails to mention is that at 11pm there was a knock on the door of these peoples hotel room and Boun Bovaban went to open the door, (it seems like these guys knew each other) an argument started and it turned into a fight and in the fight the assasin pulled out a gun and shot Bovaban. With Bovaban (19 years old) fallen dead the assasin fled the scene and that is when Mash Heikali chased the guy who then shot her once in the left ancle. Authorities are investigating and one line of the investigation is that the assasin could also be a tourist.

Aren't guns illegal in Mexico? Even for Canucks?

fdt - 5-17-2008 at 04:45 PM

No, guns have always, at least during my lifetime been legal in México.

OK

The Gull - 5-17-2008 at 05:14 PM

So that huge sign on the US side just before the TJ crossing means something different than Guns are Illegal in Mexico.

Illegal guns are illegal in Mexico. With proper permits, even you Gull can have a gun.

bajaguy - 5-17-2008 at 06:35 PM

Dennis is correct. You can legally possess a firearm in Mexico with the proper permits and licenses......and some cash.

what kind of permits and licenses? Wish we had known this before we sold the one we had when we moved...dumb broad that I am.

Thank you for sharing

Yes, I do have some targets and need to practice.

A friend of mine has a range on his ranch, waaaay outside one of the major cities in Baja. We have been discussing the permit process.

My point was lost on the dullards of the board who like to stalk. It is illegal for a foreigner to bring a gun into Mexico without the proper license and permit issued through the authority of the Mexican government, even for hunting.

I doubt what was done in CSL was with a licensed/permitted gun.

Well lets just say that there are a few who own a gun that are not real smart.

If you are going to own one, you better have a safe or really good stash spot or a really good stash spot for the safe so that doesn't happen. Otherwise you may come home and get shot by your own gun.
