What a treat and pleasure. We are sitting here in the internet cafe with El Tiburon Negro and he is such a nice guy.
He is here training for his plans to swim from Catalina Island to Redondo Beach the first week in August--the first weekend.
For those of you who don't know, he is a quite well known swimmer from Ensenada who lost the use of his legs about 20 years ago in an accident. So
his long ocean swims are quite special.
He likes to practice here because of our strong winds. His dream is to swim the Bering Strait, but as he says, that will be very difficult due to the
extreme cold.
Can't think of a better place to practice than right here. Watch for his swim from Catalina in August.
He just shared his personal CD of photos from his swim from San Clemente to Dana Point and they are great.

lottsa large critters in that channel!!!

Woody is spot on,there are more big critters in the channel than people realize,we use to fish for them guys years ago,start our drift straight out
from Pt. Fermin mid channel and drift south,hooked some huge nasties.
I can think of more friendly places to swim

People just don,t realize whats out there,we used to fish them guys years ago,straight out from Pt. mid channel and drift south,we hooked some huge
fish several large makos which scared the hell out of us,16' boat and all
I hooked a monster hammerhead that we finally got along side, half again larger then the one in the pic,funny thing about the one in the
pic,right off the Seal beach jetty,you should have seen the surfers scatter when they saw that fin......So you never know

they ain't to fool with....off Long Island (as in NY) we had a tiger, 646 lbs, largest caught at that time in those waters...
We we're fishing a 29 ft Olsen, a Jersey built oak plank skiff...that shark grabbed hold of the corner of the transom and literally shook the
boat...Dug some scary teeth out of the hull.
Had a Mako hanging off the gin pole, all of us drift fishing the opposite side, heard a racket and another Mako had the gin pole mako by the head
trying to rip it off the pole..
I gave up shark fishing.....there were not enough Depends on this planet to keep me there.

He is very aware of the sharks in that area as he talked to us about them. But it is one of his dreams.
He also said that during the evening of June 7, he is going to swim from San Roque Island to the main beach in Bahia Asuncion. ETA 10-10:30 at night
and I guess there will be a party. We, unfortunately, probably won't be here at that time.
