BajaNomad

Insurance

Fellow Nomads, I'm sure someone has the answer to this. My wife and I spend winters in La Paz, usually late Sept - early May. I was on Cobra but it expired 3-31-08. I qualify for Medicare Oct 1st 08, but my wife is just turning 61. I doubt Medicare will do any good in Baja, so my question is: what's available that affordable and has coverage in Baja/and or USA?

I've looked at MedExPlan and Bupa. MedEx very inexpensive, but excludes pre exsisting conditions. My wife and I had severe carbon monoxide poisoning 2 yrs ago and have some problems. Right now we are uninsured, so any help would be mucho appreciated!! Bajarickster

The site on Yahoo groups "My-life-in-Mexico" has had a lot of good information on Mexico Medical. I have saved most of their information, but the best post is:
http://mazinfo.com/infofiles/IMSS
It discusses the ramifications of joining into the Mexican medical system.
At least, you could Google Mexico medical system.

I think theserver must be down, temporarily. This is a Mexican site, although the information is in English.
Before I posted the information, I tried the link from the Nomad link as well as typing it directly and both worked.
Try again in a few minutes. I have gotten the same screen with other sites in the US and it usually shows up when the server at their end is having problems...I've even gotten it from my own employer's web site.

We applied for the IMSS insurance but both Ana and I were turned down. I can understand them questioning me more with some pre-existing issues, but Ana? Her blood pressure is low, she doesn't take any medication, her cholesterol is really good, low body weight, no pre-existing issues - still turned down. No reason given.

Has anyone looked into International Insurance-Seguros? http://www.azseguro.com/
