Ceiling fans - home depot

To all: When in San Lucas a few weeks ago I meant to check the ceiling fans in home depot. I am going to need four for a small casita. Are they hampton bay (hd brand) or some other brand? Any info on fans bought would be appreciated. What about selection at the store? i was planning to drive four down next month, but I am getting tight on space (windows and other things).

The only advice I can give you is to tell you....do not buy fans with remotes
we have 3 that do not work.

Home depot has a huge selection and Hampton Bay is one brand. If you are cramped for space, I would bet that you can find something there.

We brought all the ones for our house down in suitcases on planes many years ago....ah those were the days when you could have 2 suitcases, they were never weighed and if you had receipts no one ever cared.

all work great

We had trouble finding fans we liked at a reasonable price in La Paz. Ended up with 4 fans from Home Depot (Hampton Bay) and 2 from Soriana (no names.) All of the HD fans have remotes and so far (knock on wood) no problems. 1 of the 4 is wired in to work only with the remote so I may have to go in at some point and install the wall switch again. The other 3 would be easy to remove the remote sensor and hardwire without it (an option when installing them anyway.)

Judy - curious as to why 3 remotes bad. Tile floors? Fat fingers? Dog? Chinese crap?

We put 3 of this model in the bedrooms and like it the best. They have dimmers on the remotes which is nice.

I bought 2 fans at Home Depot in CSL about a year ago. One is exactly like BMG's picture. They carry both Hampton Bay and Hunter. I purcahsed 2 Hampton Bays with remotes and they both work perfectly. I compared prices at HD in California and found prices essentially the same when you add in CA sales tax. HD prices in Mexico include the VAT tax.

thanks for the quick response, did any of you buy extensions at the home depot? I would suspect they sell extensions for all the fans they sell. Its to bad home depot mx - online does not have any product information.

I bought several types of fans at HD, with remotes and some not, all work fine. At the time, a year ago, the extensions were sold separately and the only "color" they had in stock then was plain steel. They were basically "loose" pipes and not for any specific fan model.

HD in CSL has extentions in various lengths and about 4 different finishes, you know the kind that have the spiral design as well as plain, threaded on one end.

HD in CSL isn't quite as well stocked as the ones in CA, but you can find just about anything you want there unless it is very unique. They have probably 50 different ceiling fan styles in stock - with and without light kits. Prices start at around $50 for Hamptons, Hunters are more expensive.

I have two Remote controled fans w/lights that work perfectly as long as I remember to keep the wall switch on :lol: Went to Home Depot in CSL for down rods and they had only one and I needed two.....:light: So went over to the galvanized pipe section and bought the pipe I needed, a can of spray paint, took them home and with a drill I drilled out the necessary holes, painted and installed for less than they wanted for the down rod. When in Mexico think like a Mexican...:lol::lol::lol:

We had a problem with fans ( and lights) with remotes. Because of the power fluctuations, they would turn on by themselves, or increase speed, or turn off. Kinda spooky until we figured out what was doing it.:bounce:

I brought 8 Hamptom Bay fans fron Home Depot in San Diego to La Paz. The remotes only work turning on the lights, have to use the pull chain for speeds. On/off, no problem since wired to a switch. I do have provisional power on my new place, so that's probably main problem.

I have 4 Hunter fans that are 20 years old and run almost full time in Mulege, never had any trouble with them.

Are you sure you have the control code in the remote set to the same code as in the fan? That, and a bad battery are the most common reason fan remotes do not work. They are not "universal" like a TV remote.
Look for some DIP switches near where the battery goes. Make sure the pattern "up" or "down" matches the one in the fan you want to control. Have a different pattern for each fan, or you may control a fan you don't want to :)

The Hunter fan I had at my previous house was hard wired into the ceiling with no wall switch. The remote was the only way to control it.

We bought our 8 ceiling fans about 12-14 years ago at Home Depot, Sports Arena, SD. 5 inside are Hunters (about $80)and 3 on veranda are Hamilton (about $50), all have lights, all are 3-spd. All 8 run without mishap with heavy usage in warm season.

On the veranda with spray fans (Arizona Mist) the overhead fans are very nice in the heat. Would not be without them for very long.;)
