Has anybody on the board taken the four lane road from Mexicali up to Tecate? I know it is a toll road but know nothing of the condition of the road.

It's a high speed road, followed an empty tanker truck(hope it was empty) all thru there. Was all my poor 'ole Silverado could do to keep up with that rig.:spingrin:Talking about 65mph+ over and down the mountains.:D

Yes, we have used it many times.

The road is in excellant condition, and very well marked. The views are fantastic, you can see highway 8 as you come down the summit.

It is a toll road (about $10.50 in tolls) but worth it. We save 1/4 tank of gas in our Super Duty and 45 minutes using this route from San Diego to San Felipe.

The road comes out well south of the town of Mexicali near the farm areas.

We were on it 4 days ago... see the Baja Trip Reports forum...

I've taken this road with the Jeeps many times, and it is smooth, but watch for the semis that tend to travel too fast over the smooth asphalt lanes.

Since we come from Colorado we normally enter at Tecate which is our favorite crossing, but figured that we might just as well enter at Algodones and then head west from there. Sometimes it is a hassle to buy prescriptios and adult beverages and then cross back in to the US only to cross back into Mexico at Tecate. I still have not found David K's pictures but Ken's are a big help.

Sorry Pescador for not giving the direct link, here it is (in the Baja Trip Reports Forum): http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=31576

I posted the toll charges... not much else to report on 2-D...

The photos are of our beach weekend and none of the Rumorosa Grade... I do have photos from up there on Hwy. 2-D near the end of http://vivabaja.com/806
