Surfin' Ensenada

postholedigger - 5-31-2008 at 04:24 PM

Does anyone have any sandy surf spot recommendations in the area? The beaches around here seem to be a little rocky looks as if it could take an amateur surfer's face off were he to wipe out badly. Any sand beaches that are exposed to the open sea? The nearest one I've seen is on the way down at La Mision.

Huh? Well, it's your choice. Either the face gets torn off on the rocks, or the back gets sandpapered to ribbons. And it's urchins or sting rays, either way it's gonna require a nice pee on your foot. Try Estero Beach to the south - lot's of sand for your sinuses.

wow...11 posts and he dares ask a surf question....let the games begin...

and yes, I'm in a great mood, thank you

What can I say, I've been lurking for the better part of a year. I didn't feel worthy of participating on the boards here till I'd put in at least a year's worth of reading and a few more trips south of the border.

Game on! :)

Welcome to BajaNomad anyway. When you get to fifty posts, Doug will send you your decoding ring and instructions for the secret handshake. This is secret stuff and you're the only one who can read this so, don't tell anybody.

I guess Killers is out, then. (That place is reserved for the professionals and the insane anyway.)

La Fonda's a bit of a haul from Ensenada, but I've always liked the breaks out front there. Watch where you park, or you might be walking home, from what I hear lately.

Other than that, I don't believe I know the precise location of a single decent rock-free beach break on the entire peninsula.
:smug:
The Sculpin does, but he ain't talkin.

and neither am i....dragging the wife along in two weeks for a long bumpy ride to the area that shall not be named.....:?::P

p.s. there are no beaches only rocks, snakes and cactus......:!:

postholedigger - 6-1-2008 at 01:37 PM

I've been to a few spots between TJ, Rosarito Beach and La Mision, all rock free. I was just looking for a place nearer to Ensenada for when I visit down there. While out on a jog to the toll booth and back I noticed a spot across the street from the Cocinita next to El Trailero. There was a gated lot that lead to a rocky cliff down to a rocky beach and about 15 guys were sitting way out there on their boards. Maybe it's deep enough out there so that as long as you don't wipe out that bad it won't take your face off? Still I'm leary of rock/reef beaches. I leave it to the pros.

In any case, happy trails Woody.
And Dano, thanks for the heads up on the possible walk/cool down after a nice session.

Years ago you could drive to the beach on a road just north of the Mexican Air base. It lead to a nice sandy beach break.

postholedigger - 6-2-2008 at 03:48 PM

...but now...?

There isn't much Ensenada info on wannasurf.com.

805gregg - 6-3-2008 at 06:30 AM

Speaking of Ensenada, whatever happened to 3 M's?

surfer jim - 6-3-2008 at 07:14 AM

It stinks.....:(

Good question....never hear anything about it anymore......I thought they built a fish processing plant near there many years ago and had shark/smell issues......:?:

Look at the bottom of this link. It won't show all the secret spots, but I don't think there is a better overview for that area.

Hey! Woodie

Baja Bernie - 6-3-2008 at 11:22 AM

I think you should ask Mateo about the slogan, ‘Catch a Break’ that goes along with a house at K-55

Oh! A lady new to this board, Jaime, just advised me that she knows of such a great sand break in Baja, but you need to be towed into it by a jet ski.

Sadly, due to much partying and sipping a ton of nectar of the gods—the silent rocks and slithering sands are for the moment not lost just merely misplaced.

Oh! Yes. Fikshbuck!! She has done as you suggested and applied her many attributes to the task.
Her plans to invade the Tuna Pens continues and she has secured a USMC chopper, #70-52 for a daring night time raid to secure a thousand pounder…..All that is needed is a moonless night where she can sail in and swoop up a huge Tuna—right from under the guards noses.

Mike, would you consider assisting as a decoy in your silly kayak.

Mike you will remember that I have commissioned a ‘TEAM PLAYER’ T-Shirt for you and Jaime, with you names affixed, to memorialize this daring event.

Pompano, speaking of the T-Shirt, I have reserved one for the ‘Thunder God,’ another for Frank and a few other real fishermen………………those who listen to their tackle boxes.
