I'm thinking its time i jump in since i've been reading post on here for a couple years, First let me say i've made 23 trips down to Loreto in the last 11 years, always a good time. Some with great fishing and a few with very little, but never a bad time. The ouestions are, this trip i'm thinking about going to Asuncion for the first time. My son has started to surf more this year, and since i want him to keep enjoying the experience of Baja, i need to mix it up alittle. Trip will be late June. Can anyone let me in on the water temps, spring or full wetsuits ? How about the wind ? Can i drop the camper on the beach and where to launch a 18' aluminum boat ? Also how is the fishing that time of year ? He also likes to spearfish with a gun and sling. Thanks for any info. Brian

There is a launch in town that you can use and one in San Roque but both are firm sand ramps - nothing formal. Most other areas we found were too soft to launch from.

Check with Shari for camping but you may want to hit San Roque for part of your trip - maybe camp at Shari's rental house ?

There is occassional surf in San Roque, a small break in town and the "surf spot", a few miles south of town.

Fishing ??
Shore fishing is pretty good and you can always get some reef fish at San Roque Island. It will be on the early side for YT but you may get some and probably some bonito/a.
Bring trolling lures, yoyo jigs and some softies for the reef; gotta make your own live bait if you want it !
You can sometimes get dead baits from the coop.

I was there in Aug and the water was cold, full suit. If you want your son to have good surf go on down to San Juanico. The first point is a good beginer break and the water is warm.

Welcome Tincan...to the wonderful world of posting...you lurker you...well hate to be the bearer of bad news, but our ocean temps don't get nice till August...but then they stay warm till February which makes it good for swimming over the xmas holidays. "Fishing is much the same...gets good starting in August for yellowtail but there is always bottom fish around and halibut should be showing up really soon. But your son might like it here anyway as Sirena will be home and probably out at the surf break most of the time as she is learning so he can hang with the surf team here...they are awesome kids and welcome new amigos.
Paladin showed up yesterday and launched a very fancy fishing machine with Juan's help....they had to move some pangas out of the way first. You can launch your tin boat from many places and camp anywhere you like...San Roque is the nicest spot or right in town...we can help you get oriented. Hopefully this danged wind will settle down in a couple weeks, the mornings are gorgeous and it's been pretty windy in the afternoons. So we look forward to showing you around and your son will enjoy meeting the locals and hangin with sirena. see ya soon then.

Two major surf breaks in Punta Abreojos...me? I'm a fishermen, but most of our visitors are hard core surfers..

Easy boat launch in La Bocana, best along this coast. Access to Estero La Bocana & Estero Coyote.

Oh no, you may be in real trouble---I was going to suggest Abreojos, but knew I would be in trouble with that other nomad and neighbor of yours. :lol:

Punta Chorros is the local surf spot for Bahia Asuncion---where they now hold their surfing tournaments. It is easy to find and we have seen people camping there---but never more than a few. It is a beautiful spot, but think you would have to launch your boat in town---

What, no one knows about Abreojos.....too, too far down the road to believe that.

Just a little out of the way and no gated communities...a realatively small audience.

But Ascuncion is really much better and I think all vistors should go there.

Ok...so the ocean is probably nearly 60 degrees right now for you americans....and gets up to 80 degrees for a few months and is around 75 degrees around christmas...good temps if you arent a woosey. Abreojos is similar. You can visit all these coastal communities and surf and camp in all of them between Asuncion & Abreojos...our teenage nephew Noe would love to take you surfing and spearfishing in San Hipolito too and you can camp at their place right on the beach...awesome people.

Must go for an MRI on Monday, real trouble with my back (2 weeks now & no improvement). Part of the results of crawling around burning buildings :fire:

for 20 years I suppose.

Hope they can get me in shape soon to start our drive west...Door to door about 3500 miles! :rolleyes:

No, No, ===can't drive downs that coast road--deep holes, bandits, snakes,----- :lol:

I want to thank everyone for all their info. Not sure now when this trip will happen as the Dr. says he needs to do some more cutting on me. Been one of those kind of years for me. Good health is by far more important.

Dang! Sure hope the cutting is not serious and you are ready to head south very soon. If you do head toward Bahia Asuncion, the weather will be better later.
