After years of crossing the border at Mexicali heading North, I came to favor Thursdays at the Garita Oriente as the least congested. Until just
recently, it has worked out well since I usually arrive there around 2 p.m.
In the last Six months, however, arriving within 30 minutes of that time period, I've found the wait time to be 15 minutes, 5 minutes, ZERO minutes,
65 minutes, 20 minutes and today 60 minutes. None of the Thursdays have been holiday-related and the U.S. authorities claim to have no idea why the
flow varies. Or, at least that's what they claim.
My wife suggested that there might be a lot of Mexicans crossing to celebrate D-Day with their relatives. I thought that unlikely.
Another one of those great mysteries of life.

Ya,
we can't figure it out either! We actually had a Sunday night crossing around 6 p.m. or so and there was only 10 cars in front of us and it took about
8 minutes. The border agent thought it was the price of gas, I thought the heat.
The next trip coming home two weeks later it was an hour and a half.
Brutal!
Memorial Day Weekend (Monday) was an hour and a half exactly.
