Loreto Airport

I flew out of Loreto Saturday on the Alaska/Horizon flight.

When my carry on was searched, the woman who did the searching confiscated my small bag of extra batteries...just AA and AAA spares. She said it was because you cannot carry batteries in carry-on bags, something I had never heard before. In fact, this same bag of extra batteries has traveled back and forth to Loreto on many trips. When I got to LA, I asked a TSA person, who had never heard of such a rule. I checked TSA on line and there is no restriction for batteries in carry-on bags...just lithium batteries in checked luggage. I also checked Mexicana and AeroMexico for any Mexico specific rules. It was instructive…I learned I couldn’t carry on a cattle prod, an electric saw, or a baseball bat, but the only mention of battery prohibitions was for wet cell batteries.

Anybody had this happen, or heard of this before????

BTW, the Horizon flight was great. Smaller plane than the usual Alaska planes(60 passengers) and beer and wine were free, and liberally poured!

Ah, her brother is probably a military check point guy.

Oh shoot, I was going to bring my cattle prod down next visit. That plan is shot!

We have had our batteries confiscated at the Loreto airport in the past. This is not a new rule, and once you have lost a whole package of batteries, you make sure the next time they are packed in your suitcase!

Maybe that is why they had batteries for sale at the segunda on Main St.
