When calling a cell phone from the US, you do not use the 44 or 45.
You dial 011-52-1 + area code and number
example 011-52-1-615-103-9087 (don't know whose number that is.)
The 1 denotes that you are calling a cell phone. The use of the 44 or 45 is ONLY for when you are in Mexico.
Gets confusing! I wrote it all down so I would not forget.

I recently read an explanation of the Mexican Cell rules that makes these 1, 044, and 045 numbers have meaning. Mexico requires all cell calls to be
paid for by the Caller. The 1 for out of Mexico calls, the 044 for in same area code calls, and the 045 for out of area code calls are used to make
sure the Calling Party acknowledges they will be charged for the call.
Interesting side light is that since Mexican cell calls are paid by the caller, you can use a Pre-Paid Cell Phone without any paid minutes and still

When I call another cell phone in the Bahia Asuncion area, I dial 044 +area code + number
For cell phone out of the area, dial 055 +area code +number
I think it is the same if you are calling from a land line, but hope someone else confirms that.
Just a a side note---we really like our telcel phone. It was cheap and if we do not use all the minutes within the two months, when we buy a new

I used to be on a Telcel contract and canceled it when over. Even living in Baja and using the phone frequently I am spending less with the Plan
Amigo. Here in north Baja we can refill the minutes at OXXO stations by just giving our cell numbers at the register. They are tied in directly to
Telcel and the minutes are updated immediately.
No having to scratch off the cards and worrying about scratching too hard to the point they are difficult or even impossible to read.

Plan Amigo is a calling plan where you have no contract and only pay for your outgoing calls. The balance on your account rolls over as long as you
add some minimum amount to your account every 60 days. If you miss the 60 day cutoff there is a grace period and you will recoup your minutes. You can
add minutes via your phone with a prepaid card, at OXXO directly via their cash register with your cell number or online if you are not in Baja. You
can add (I believe) up to five favorite Telcel numbers you routinely dial and those outgoing calls will be at a reduced cost.
As I am no longer tied into paying a fixed charge each month for X minutes, I have found that this flexible plan has cut my cell cost in Mexico almost

I think the Amigo plan is what we have. We got it when we bought our phone at the tel-cel office. We have no contract---just buy the card, call *333
and add the minutes.
I also like this plan because it is easy to check on how much money I have left on the phone.
You can go to any TelCel place and purchase the Amigo plan with a phone. The only problem I had was working through registering the phone -- finally
had the girl at the TelCel office help me.
Then the phone can be programmed for Spanish or English---now to get all the instructions in English, I had to go to the web and search them out. Got
them from India as my Motorola phone was only made for other countries.
Once you use up the original money you paid for----they quote it in pesos, not in minutes, you cal buy another card at the Tel-Cel office and at many
other locations. Then scratch it, call in the number, and instantly you have the added value.

Well, then that's what I have, the Amigo plan. It's a pay as you go plan, minutes cost about 30 cents each and no monthly charge. I refill my
minutes with a scratch and sniff card purchased almost anywhere. Phone was essentially free. The TelCel office in San Jose registered the phone and

I just hate the scratch cards as some are hard to read. Probably should use something better than a key. I just do it at Oxxo and let them update my
minutes online.
You get extra minutes the more you add so if you call a lot add 500 pesos at a time...
