Have a great "Longest day of the year"

fdt - 6-21-2008 at 08:11 AM

Today is the longest day of the year.
Tijuana sunrise / sunset 5:41 / 7:59
La Paz sunrise / sunset 6:34 / 8:12

Really bad news

The Gull - 6-21-2008 at 08:12 AM

Every day will get shorter for the next six months. Depressing.

Diver - 6-21-2008 at 08:22 AM

Jeez, and I was tired from yesterday !!

shari - 6-21-2008 at 08:25 AM

Was the moon a fabulous red colour for everyone last night? It was absolutely magical here....I'm glad the days are getting shorter, I can go to bed earlier! Happy summer amigos.

I think that in celebration of the longest day of the year we need fdt to give us all a night-time walking tour of the Zona Norte, specifically Calle Coahuila so we can observe and take notes on the night life of Tijuana. Look fdt even posted the sunset time for Tijuana…Tijuana Sunset 7:59 PM…Purrrfect.
This of course would have to be with the expressed Okie Dokie of Mrs. fdt. I only attach the photograph of the Adelitas Bar to show you one of the places you should stay out of. It is a very dangerous place. I am told your eyes may fall out of your head in there. Anyway, that's what I have heard. And also be careful if you are told "Te voy a llevar al cielo" loosely translated it means something like they are going to take you to heaven. I have no idea what that means but it could be dangerous too.
"Stop it."

You guys down south- don't forget to go outside at noon to see if you can find your shadow!

Summer solstice at 9 Palms

I flunked on grover's video embedding instruction, so here's another one

no shadow

oladulce - 6-21-2008 at 09:16 AM

Thanks Grover but it's too nice outside to fiddle with it now.

I'd rather spend the longest day of the year in one of those places in the pictures.

Bajajorge - 6-21-2008 at 09:28 AM

Wasn't the Longest Day a John Wayne movie?:?::lol:;D;)

shari - 6-21-2008 at 09:45 AM

Shari, be sure to show the Asuncion kids the standing up egg trip today.

Terry28 - 6-21-2008 at 10:10 AM

Grover,
Thanks for the clip, that was awesome bro!! I wonder where that was??

shari - 6-21-2008 at 10:10 AM

What IS the standing up egg trip? I'd love to show them.

Osprey - 6-21-2008 at 10:30 AM

All day today you can stand a regular egg on end -- need to place it on a soft surface like a dishtowel. It will stand up thru the whole solstice -- probably 20 to 30 hours.

Woody---first you needed to build the big fire in the kitchen under a stone arch. They you needed to dress in a black cloak, maybe with deer antlers on your head and while chanting, circle the fire five time.

Then, the egg will stand-up, but only if you believe---nothing scientific.

PS: It's also our, Simone's and mine, 15th wedding anniversary. On a day this long I'll always have enough time to remember :saint:
Hey grover how's it going for you? ;D

Felicidades Fernando y Simone. AHUUUUUUUUUUA. This song reminds me of you two that one day when I was listening and commenting on your banter with each other on your show. It was a great show.

I guess a walking tour of the Zona Norte tonight is clearly out of the question.

I thought the standing egg trick would only work on the autumnal and vernal equinox, not on the winter or summer solstice.

THAT is called a "Strawberry Moon". Cool!

Quote:

Full Strawberry Moon - June This name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . so the full Moon that occurs during that month was christened for the strawberry!
